how many of you use (i'll say data loggers as your not allowed to time on a t/day ) them? and more to the point, how many of you use the data you get from the logger to see where you can can improve, compare laps etc to see why you are slower/faster on said lap? i've used them for quite a while, and very lightly gone into the detailed analysis, but i've just started to get my head around the AIM stuff, and how to use the software which can be tricky, mainly because i want to see where/why i'm losing time atm.it's actually very interesting and helpfull to see where your time goes (or comes) and why. 1 intersing thing is that i dont feel i'm leaning into corners as much on the beemer as i'm struggling to gauge my lean, but looking at the gyro data i'm virtually the same, but my left hand corners are miles away (deg wise) then my rights. still goiong through various bits, but if anyone wants any tips on the AIM data let me know. jase,it will be interesting to get a couple of your sessions data to compare to mine.
I wanted an Aim solo as was really impressed with Jase's, main reason was in qualy to know I need to push more or when I've done about as good as i'll get come in and save some energy / tyre... or cruise around and wait for a chance to have one more hot lap.... at the moment I go out and go as fast as I can for as long as I can, which isn't a particular good strategy imo. Other reason was in races where im ahead of a group I can get away from, if I don’t catch or see the group in front and I end up in a lonely position, the group behind always catch me at the end as my times drop off so wanted one to keep on eye on my pace and give me a kick up the arse as ive lost a few places this year like this and it annoys the hell out of me. But I’ve just bought a HM dash so the timers are all inbuilt, has GPS but not sure of the functions etc but I’m hoping that the software does allow some data logging for me to try and analyse… we shall see.
I'm the other way Scoobs! I lean too much and don't get off the bike enough, much more so in left handers! I'm sure this was partly responsible for my recent off as I probably decked out and ran outa tyre!
Yeah would he good to look at my data just know idea where to start with it regarding lean angles I was struggling a bit with the bmw on my left handlers even the blade but after Anglesey this was not a problem and have never had my left knee down so much on a track day hoping I can carry that to other tracks as it gave me real confidence in the bike as I have always been a bit lazy on hanging off as I have always leaned the bike more than me hanging off especially on left handers but for me to look at data would be a great help to see where you can improve.
Hey jimbo whats happening with your AIM solo now you have the HM Dash? Always curious about what times im doing and how quick I am.
I did use the DDA USB thing and the built in lap timer on my Ducati, but I end up chasing lap times and taking to many risks. I nearly crashed 3 times on the trackday just before my last one due to it. I have decided to sack the lap timer and just leave it off but still use the DDA, and my last track day was much more enjoyable and without incident so think I am better off without lap times. The data logger side of it is cool and does help out but by the time I study it and then go back to the same track it all goes out the window anyway but it is interesting to see.
jase,i'll upload some of your data onto my laptop next time out and have a look. the problem with the AIM software analysis is that it's quite hard to understand at first, and what it actually logs,so i've never really looked at it,i've always used my qstarz for the data, but it is quite limited in what it gives. so,a few hrs on youtube watching some tutorials has given me a much better idea of how it all works, max lean angle of 53deg ,not quite the 60's of the mgp though . jimbo,i'd imagine a lap timer whilst racing will be very beneficial, the HM dash looks awesome, and the GPS is very good (mates got one),not sure if it logs any data though. and i've just bought the solo DL aswell, which on the beemer logs 30+ different things on the bike, not all beneficial, but it's going to be fun going through all...... i think next time out on track,i'll do the 1st session, then spend the rest of the day on my laptop
Yeah had a little look and looks like its fairly limited in terms of logging.... But main function was the lap timer so I'm pleased anyway. Plus they look trick as fook
Aint cheap though are they. But demon tweaks do finance on them lol How do you guys with them get on with trackdays? I thought you cant time yourself?
your not supposed to,but as long as your not putting beacons on pit wall,or got a m8 with a stop watch they dont mind (usually, and as along as your discreet) the GPS ones. i've got 2 solo's now
i'm holding onto it for the moment, will put 1 on my other track bike, well when i decide to rebuild it. but if that looks like never happening i'll give you a shout
My ideal lap time doesn't work on mine.as soon as I bought mine after wanted one for ages ended up with an old version and a aim solo come up the week later for the same money
strange why that doesn't work if everything else does.i know they theres few people that have had problems with them, but that's more them not working altogether. you sure your reading the data on your pc properly? I don't know anything about them tbh,but no reason it shouldn't give your optimum lap if it has all other data.
it's one of my favourite things wheni look at the data, gives me an idea of what I can do if I get everything right and a clear lap.
