WTF is that all about?

As you can tell I have limited putor know how so if anyone can shed some light on the subject would be great!

Your wep number is usually printed on the back of your Router, Haggler.

The WEP code is the security access code to allow you into the router.
If you dont know what it is, try looking on the router itself. It is usually on a sticker.
If not, you will have to look at your paperwork that came with the router.
If you still have another PC on the network and know the router logon details you should find the code in there

Tried the numbers on the base......no joy.
    Theres a WAN MAC number
    A serial number
    PIN code number
    LAN/WLAN MAC number?

There must be a better way of doing this!!

Your going to need to find either the WEP or the WPA number to continue, mate. Like Steve said, if it's not printed on the router itself it must be with the original paperwork.

Sorry, but even if you want to change it to an easier to remember pass key, you're going to need the original one first.

Make sure you have the characters upper and lower case correctly.

you could try logging onto the router if you have another pc connected.
If you have, try the following:
    1. open your web browser.
    2. in the address bar type 192.168.0.1. If nothing happens try 192.168.1.1
    3. this should bring up the router logon screen asking for username and password. Unless they have been changed they are usually "admin" for both. If not try admin for username and "password" for password.
If this gets you in, go to the wireless section and you should see the WEP key.

Just as a wee side note ... you should maybe be using WPA2 rather than WEP if you have that option in your router .... WEP is about as secure as a wet paper bag
