Just booked a long weekend for me and a mate in June for 3 days touring around Dumfries & Galloway followed by The Lakes. If anyone has any decent biking roads they would recommend in those areas, shout 'em out! :)

The plan is to find a route around Galloway Forest and maybe the west coast road, and then visit as many lakes as we can manage in a day and a half. Should be good - hope the weather picks up!

Oh you have just landed yourself rite inside our stomping ground mate!

The roads around there and with that general area are really good. There's so many that I could show you. Anything from a full days blast, to a nice evenings ride.

Dumfries in itself tends to be quite heavily policed, but 20 minutes up the road from there is where the fun really begins.

Yep Dumfries to new cumnock is a cracking Road, you can also peel off at Carron bridge head up the hills towards the motorway up to bigger over to Moffat

West coast from Stranraer to ayr really is such a nice scenic Road but often very busy.

Lol - I dunno if I dare go much further north without security :D

What's Galloway Forest like for policing? Looks like there are a few routes around there that look fun...

I'll get some routes for you mapped out and post them up.

As above the carron bridge road is a proper little hidden gem. That then leads you into Moffat and various routes from there including a run past the grey mares tail.

So many options for a cracking couple of days riding.

The Galloway forest itself is really scenic and not too badly policed.

You could have a full days riding from there to Ayr and a loop back down through to Moffat, then to Carron Bridge and back again to Dumfries.

Just depends on how many miles/hours you want to spend on the bike.
I plan on having a full days riding taking in all of my favourite roads shortly as I've only been out once this year so far.

Our plan is to set off early Sat morning and get there around 10ish. A quick stop to ease the back after the motorway journey up there and then set off for the rest of the day exploring. Then we have an overnight stay in Dumfries itself. The next day we could either continue exploring that area or ride down to the north lakes and plan a route around there - I guess it depends on how far we get on the Saturday and the weather etc. We need to be at the hotel in Cockermouth on Sunday evening. Then Monday is another full day exploring the lakes followed by the journey back home. We've done nearly 400miles exploring in a day before now which was OKish. Obviously I'll be on the 'Blade and my mate has a Hayabusa.

Easily enough time to explore and get a feel for the sort of roads we have in our back garden.

Makes me wanna just jump on the bike just now and head for the hills ;)

Got back from this yesterday evening. What an absolutely cracking 3 days! Thanks for the tips about the Carronbridge road - we did that - what a great bit of tarmac! We visited quite a few places that I can't remember the name of, but some of those that I do were Elvanfoot, Thornhill, Clatteringshaws, Loch Ken. Then on to the lakes where we went to Bassenthwaite, Cockermouth, Whitehaven, St. Bees, Crummock, Buttermere, Thirlmere, Grasmere, Coniston, and Bowness. About 900 miles in total. Anyhoo here are a few pics :)
