Whilst out riding yesterday i decided to give the throttle a good old twist on the dual carriage way and suddenly the engine cut out and i lost all power to dash, i put on hazzards and coasted to side of carriage way thinking ooh shit what have i done, turned ignigtion off and back on again and it started straight up again. Anyone got any ideas what happened here ?. I have only had bike a couple of weeks and this was my first proper outing on her, been fine for about 50 miles proir this and done another 50 miles home with no problems alough didn't give it as much beans on way home.

I did think it might bea loose connector or something but this happened on a smooth flat surface and i had been down some bumpy twisty roads beforehand and would have thought it would of happened on them not the dual carraige way,any ideas would be greatly appricated.

As Martin suggests, the last time this happened to me it was because I had forgotten to tighten the battery terminal.

Yep, Battery connections under the seat or a loose connector to the ECU and or Power Commander if fitted.

    As above seems most likely......
Only other thing to check would be the side stand switch, it can cause same symtoms
As can water or corrosion in the kill switch mech on the handle bars, squirt of acf50 usually sorts it if not take apart clean and acf50.

Thanks guys, I will try battery connection and side stand switch tomorrow when i can get to the bike. I did think about side stand switch as my stand doesn't seem to have a very strong spring and i have to push the stand back with my foot to make sure it all the way. but would it not just cut the engine out and leave the dash all live ?, i had no dash at all !!. Don't think it will be battery leads as when i hit the hazzard button they worked straight away so power must have still been there and dash didn't light back up until i switched the ignition off and then back on.

hope it was a one off or something simple and hope i haven't brought a bike with a little electrical gremlim in it !!.
