Brilliant avatar Lozzy at this time of remembrance. I was reading an article a few days ago the allies sustained 11,000 casualties on the last day of WW1, despite most of the Generals knowing about the ceasefire at 11 am, young lives were worth nothing even after 4 years of war.
Hear Hear! Some of the statistics surrounding WW1 are incomprehensible. 20,000 British killed on the first day of the Somme. Imagine asking that many people to lay down their lives for the country in 2018? Wouldn't happen. Brave people back then.
May I suggest reading "The Intellectuals and the Masses" by John Carey This goes some way to explaining what the elites thought of the vulgar masses at the time, and why they could commit tens of thousands to be slaughtered.
