has anybody had any experience of fitting one of these to a 08 blade,do you have to remove cam chain cover and cam chain guide or just put it to tdc and remove old and replace new.

Not on a blade, but VTR1000, just set at TDC and replace.
The main issue is usually access both for installing and setting the tension.

We done Dave v's was a piece of piss....

Access a little fiddly, but take old one of, bolt new and pull the pin, sets the tension automatically. Just remember to put the final nut on before starting the bike ;) jimbo / Dave near miss lol

Well that's my simple interpretation of it - I was drinking tea and not paying a great deal of attention at the time!

Dave will firm up details though I'm sure

Lol, all that tea went to our heads!

Like Jimbo says, nothing to it really other than being patient. Sure the service manual says take the air box off, we didn't bother.

Take the right hand fairing off.

Take the tank off, may well be able complete the work without having to but thought this would be so much easier.

    Undo the middle tension bolt

    Undo the two retaining bolts

    Pull the old unit out

    Replace the gasket

    Offer the new one up

    Replace the two retaining bolts

Pull the pin thing that comes with the OEM replacement tensioner- this is where it's going to be different if you fit a manual unit.

Squirt a little oil down the hole

    Replace the centre tension bolt.

Replace the tank, run the bike to check any leaks etc

    Replace the fairings

    Rag the bike

To be fair this is replacement for a like for like unit, eg not manual.

I did look into replacing the OEM with a manual unit. Actually fitting the manual version can't be any different to the OEM.

The actual adjustment on it also looks a doddle, it's just the centre bolt. I read that you can complete the adjustment by feel, but this is where I decided to not go the manual root as just couldn't get my head around how you can get the tension right without checking the actual cam chain itself, which would be a ball ache if it had be done say every 5k or something. But then I'm new to working olmy own bikes and others on here have far more experience and may be able to provide more information on how to adjust the manual CCT.

If its worth anything, didn't even consider tdc bit again this is based upon a like4like replacement.

Is everyone getting the detail of the original question which is around fitting a MANUAL cct?

Remove the timing cap from the clutch cover 17mm socket then you'll see the marks inside, turn the crank clockwise 14mm socket and align the marks up mate
