Last time I got tyres changed by the guy from parkitt I had to change rear only, left the racetech on the front and he said what is your rear told him it was a SC2 going on, he said yeah that should be OK. Do you normally have to match the tyres? What do you guys normally do when getting scrubs, buy em in pairs or just mix it up?

    Cheers

Pirelli own Metzeler. Racetech and Super Corsa are essentally the same tyre so no problem mixing them.

I normally buy in pairs, but coming into the cooler weather, I will go for K1 or K2 which are the softer compounds, rather than in the hotter weather running the K3 harder compound.

rears tend to wear faster than fronts, for me i go through roughly 2 rears to a front so wont always change the front.

i dont have any 180's only 190's,but they have enough left on them for another 2-3 days.would be a bit tight on your bike i'd guess, what rim width you on 5 or 5.5"?

5.5" as standard on the gsxr k4 but i am using dymag wheels but cant see any reason for wheel width to be different. Deffo on 180s tho

From what i understand wouldnt 190 turn in slower and require ride height adjustment on the bike?

all depends on profile,a 190/50 will be slower but these are 55's so higher.

but they are more suited to 6" rims i'm guessing rims,5.5 will pull the tyre in more changing the profile a bit,how much i've no idea as never run them

Ive read that like you say a 190/55 on a 5.5" tyre will change the profile but not dramatically. The two results of the change are a bigger footprint when leant over but a slower speed flip from side to side on chicane like corners. Seems as though a 190 would suit more wide open fast sweeping tracks. Although changing pressures can affect the size of footprint quite a bit can it not? Geez ive so much to learn... :)

One small point to watch out for, when i got my new R6, it had a 55 profile tyre on the rear and my tyre warmers wouldn't fit between the tyre and swingarm. i didn't think it would make that much difference, but there was no way that the tyre warmer was going to fit.

Actually while on the topic of warmers. On a trackday do you come off warmers and straight Knee down in first corner or do you wait a few before leaning the bike hard? You often can end up sat in the assembly area for 2 or 3 minutes but they cant loose that much heat? Ive come off track before and felt my tyres 10 minutes later and they were still boiling

With warmers, if you have been sitting for a couple of minutes, I would give it a lap to get the tyres back up to temperature again. I leave my warmers on until the final call for the grid, head out to the assembly area, where you can often wait for about a minute or 2. You then do a sighting lap, which helps to get heat back into the tyres. Also, don't try weaving to generate heat, it is pretty much a myth and more likely to cause an accident.

Yeah i was waiting for final call at cadwell then taking em off a laying em out and lidding up. By that time it was probably only a minute in the assembly area. On the sessions where there was no sighting lap i felt confident enough getting the KD by coppice couple of twitches but nowt major!

Yeah, just take it easy for the first lap or part lap. It is the front to watch out for really,as that can go without any warning.
