Anybody got any experience of the Maxton GP30 fork cartridge ? I m thinking of getting a set Maxton Suspension home page
You've shocked me a bit there to be honest Craig I was expecting to hear good things to be honest as the CV reads impressively with TT win etc. All feedback is great especially if it stops me wasting money. What did'nt you like about them ? and what is the general feeling you have heard regards them ? is it specific to this GP30 cartridge design or all of Maxtons work. thanks for all the info mate
That's surprised me to Craig, not that i'm in the market for a GP30 cartridge set. If I was looking at say having my 06 1000rr forks and shock reworked who would you suggest i'd be best spending my money with then?
they just felt crude, i tried all sorts with the ones fitted to my rr7 and it made no difference, i know people bang on about K-tec, Ohlins & Bitubo, but with good reason, they are miles above the maxton stuff.
Craig what is your problem with maxton lol? whatever it is i think you should let them no how crap there work is?!?!?!#
It maybe the general bods like us have it done (for show) and don't realise the quality (just a thought) .
Craig please don't take this the wrong way as all feedback is great and is exactly what I need whether its good or bad, but funnily enough it was one of your comments in a previous thread that made me look at Maxton in the first place. It was'nt directly about Maxton in all fairness it was the comment that Ohlins are more suited to smooth european tracks and K-tech are better suit to bumpy uk circuits. Bearing this useful comment in mind as the upgrade is for a road bike (only a few trackdays) I thought as Maxton do alot for the IOM TT brigade I thought they might be useful on road bike suspension set up. Maxton make the below claim which I found very impressive but your first hand experience is invaluable and seriously making me think twice about it all now. The GP30 fork cartridges are used by Superstock, Supersport and Superbike teams running in British Superbikes and the Isle of Man TT. Riders who have used the GP30 cartridges include Conor Cummins, Simon Andrews, Ryan Farquhar, Ian Lougher, Dan Kneen and Victor Cox.
This is not for posing mate the SP2 forks are pants believe me. However I have a well set up stock suspension package on my Blade and it only ever gets serviced as for me at my level, pace and weight the stock stuff works so as you say no point changing other than the bling bling factor which in fairness can never be dismissed.
I have had maxton fork internals in my old rr7 blade rd bike and the differance was amazing! also got em in my 2011 and a maxton rear spring so for ive only done a few miles but again WOW!! And there really helpfull and talk you though everthing all ive heard are good reports apart from CC,s!
Alot. Ive said repeatedly that maxton may work for some folk, but ive had an 07 r6 with maxton rear & 07 blade with maxton all round and both were horrible, the rr7 i have just sold felt alot worse than my previous rr7 which had ktec front & rear, ive also ridden on Ohlins (my current steed has it), bitubo and others, i cant speak for everyone, and its easy to say this rider and that rider have ridden on this and that, but if we are coming down to personal experience, not one person i regularly deal with, be it road, race or just track riders, uses maxton. It might be that ive had bad luck with badly kept maxton stuff, but 2 out of 2 tells me to steer clear. Bats, weve been through this, its personal opinion, and thats what Blade asked for.
Yeah i see you point craig but why did you find em rubbish? slower lap times harsh ride cheap feel look?? Or is it cos non of your boys use em and they are faster than you
Thanks Craig great feedback although if I m reading it correctly you did'nt have direct experience specifically with the GP30 cartridge your opinion and help have been very useful, thanks mate.
Ooh fight!! I can see where Craig is coming from he can only go on his experience, and that's exactly what we've got. I'm sure if he didn't like maxton because of a poor service issue or similar that would have been said too
Well as ive said i have had and no a few who have all had maxton and love it! One guy had a zx10r on ohlins cartrides and ttx shock and was a second down on lap times to stock susp he tryed ever setting he could no better! then slapped a maxton rear shock in and BOOM 1 second faster than stock! AT THE END OF THE DAY JUST BUY WHAT YOU FEEL IS RIGHT!!!
The trouble is with a road bike is your unlikely to replace the suspension twice so making the best informed decision to get the best bang for my buck is what i'm looking to get! Without spending thousands so in my case i'm might be best finding a local racer how can help guide me how to best setup what i've got now.
Tbh most of us would be right on stock susp set up and sprung by a proper geezer! honda are well nown for soft frt if above 11 stone so just revale etc! End of day all these firms are good so just go with your heart and wallet!!
