Been thinking a while now, and find that it's the torque of the Blade that I like the most, and when getting the bike custom mapped, I will try and get it tuned for more midrange rather than aim for more top end power. Is there anything else that I can do to improve the midrange other than this, Ie can I fit different inlet trumpets, or is there something else that can be done? I'm not looking at doing any engine work, as that is just ££££
2-3 up on the rear then! My ZX10 is down 1 at the front and + 3 at the rear! The Fecker power Wheelies everywhere, U can't want more than that can U?
Only thing with doing that though, is that you end up with higher revs at normal speeds (motorway speeds) and end up with more vibration. Something I'm not looking at doing as I use the bike for the road, and a bit of touring.
This is what a custom map did to my midrange on my previous Cb1000r, note this is on partial throttle! Result: Power wheelies on tap and the need for a steering damper!
Hopefully with just the custom map I will be happy. I may also try a different air filter this time. I've heard good things about the MWR filters.
yes I can back this up, I have the GP2 exhaust, but for the quieter TD I have a 52cm Akrapovic on it, dyno'ed both, akra has 5 or 6 more nm, but a few bhp less aswell.
Catch twenty two though. It spoils the looks. It makes the bike look dated with a longer exhaust. Geez I'm a fussy fooker!
I'll give you that Al. Your determined to get rid of that R1 I'm not getting rid of the Blade, I'm just improving where I see fit. Even if I get a new bike, the blade is staying, and the new bike will be sat beside it in the stable. 2015 looks like an interesting year for new bikes.
Thing is - on the right roads its epic - and know if I chop it in I'll miss it loads as most stuff just feels 'Dull' after it!
Only problem I can see with it and the likes of the RSV4 is the fuel consumption. Both of which feel the same to ride.
Once you ride a 1098R nothing has mid range lol (approx 100ft-lb of grunt!) That chart shows AT running, best AFR never makes best power, as said a good set of headers and full length pipe is the answer, good filters also like you say, not much else on the "power for free" side of tuning that I could think of. Your dyno session should improve things.
I'm not expecting much from the filter to be honest, but I fancy a change from the pipercross. There is a good tuner up in the Highlands that I'm going to get booked in with over the next month or so (just need to wait for the snow to clear).
More than likely Arthur. I do like the instant power coming out of the corner. A bit wild and exciting
