In the what bikes have you owned thread it would appear quite a few of us have had "our favourite bike as youngsters the mighty honda VFR400 NC30" (Stimo) and more importantly they are so bloody good that many of us have managed to keep hold of / couldn’t bear to part with them....

i bought mine at 20 - two days out of college and 1st day at work, straight round the bank and personal loan, job done..... used and abused it for 3 years before a year off bikes (skint from flat purchase) then bought my brand new R6 at 25....

thing is i loved that little thing so much i couldn’t trade it in (and im glad I didn’t) and don’t think i will ever sell it. I'd sell all my bikes before this one.... don’t know why, had bikes before it and after but none are as special!

so here she was before i garaged it....

its hardly turned a wheel since and currently sits here waiting for some TLC....

but recent pics / post have inspired me to get her on the road next year.

so come on - who else has owned one, got one or wants one!?!?

lets see ya pics, mods, stories and general chat about the mighty honda VFR400.

I tried to buy my friend's track ready one... Turned out it had a warped head from overheating, so I stayed away...

I want one, but I ALWAYS wanted a Blade, so I went with that instead... This time... ;)

About time you got your arse in gear and sorted it mate, if I had the spare cash and space I'd have one tomorrow.

I don't actually think it needs much to get it in mint condition.

I've had a lot of them over the years and am currently building a track going one. The best handling bike I've ever owned, ridden and tracked. Looking forward to finishing this wee project and getting her on the track.

I love them and would have one in a heart beat, I loved my little 400 NC-23 tri arm it was perfect to learn on, but I think now I could really have some fun on it and use it to its full potentional :)

It looks like it just needs a polish and the wheels powder coating and it will be mint ? is there more we cant see in the picture ?

I wish I had mine still.was a member of the grey bike vfr club
many years ago getting my monthly flyer through the post.
I had a norman hyde can on mine and it wasnt half loud, nice deep
grumble from it.mod wise I done the ram air mod(not sure if you have done it but here goes)
above the radiator there is a plactic flap that then directs air
around your engine before it reaches the airbox inlet.what you do
is cut a hole in the in it directly below the airbox intake and poprivet
some mesh over the hole to stop any nasties getting into your airbox.
now stick on a free flowing air filter and change the jets to
118F 120R which I believe is the jet size for the later ram air updated rvf.
this was a very popular mod and I got mine on a dyno after to double check
the fueling which was spot on.other mod was to bin the rec/reg unit and fit
one from a cbr600.never had one give any problems after that.

I'm a Moderator on the afore mentioned 400GB and have been for about 8 years and know these wee bikes very, very well. There are lots of 'little things' to do to help performance, but if the bike runs well then it's best to leave well alone, they don't like it that much if their air or fueling is messed with.

My last track NC ran a full ram-air set-up with the letter box opening in the front fairing, fuel pump, a lot of carb changes, pressurised foats that were equalised by the airbox pressure etc etc. This current '30 will just have the HRC air tray and standard carbs with small changes.

Love my little 400 couldn't bare to part with it and OK it's never going to be worth a fortune but it won't loose a great deal either.

Nippy little buggers and handle great, have a few plans this winter for it if I get the time.

This was pre internet forums so not the same place.
It was my cousin that got the bike checked on the
Dyno for me and said it was spot on but the standard
110 front and back jets weren't so great when you put
A system on it.he raced a vfr for Chris Dowd doing
    Tracks only.

Cool, I've a few of the old Greybike documents in the house too. 110's are very small for a '30 as they are 115f/118r standard so with a free flowing can 118f/120r is usually a fair pop at fueling, but the bikes are set-up rich from the factory so a jet change isn't usually needed.

Here's a few of the NC30's I've had over the years (never owned a '35 though)

That exhaust on the last pic is one of the only produced full system that includes the replacement of the little twisty part of the rear cylinders. It's a JHA system that I had to get imported from Japan at a fair few £££. Best mods is a 17 inch rear wheel from an NC35, new top and bottom rads as they're all pretty much fucked now, a good strip and clean of the carbs and a re-balance and the a/f screw set correctly, change the regulator for an R6 one as the standard ones are shit and new oil and springs for the front and if you're feeling flush, a new shock for the rear. Lets face it, none of us are the size of the Japanese folk.

thought i had never seen one before, in the same pic is that a nc35 front end you have on it? is that just a straight swap onto the 30?
agree with you about the rads my lower one is past its best but they are expensive buggars to buy new from jap4performance, have you ever used one of them chinese cheap ones they sell on ebay before viber just wondering if they are worth a try or not?
phantom have you got a pic of your black, silver and red one loved them colours!

Viper - pretty much summed up what I want to do.

As for size of Japanese folk - speak for yourself (height not weight anyway ;) )

Unfortunately not.I hit a pheasant with mine before I got any pics and the fairing
    Exploded into a hundred pieces.
Fella I knew had a very trick model with the tyga rear
    End with the underseat exhaust.
Also just thinking tonight I think my bro in law
Has a cbr250rr needing rebuilt in his shed.
