Off up north in May, Dumfries to Portree (Sky) via Mallaig past the viaduct in the Harry Potter films, 300 miles then upto Ullapool the next day via Applecross, few beers & some good food ( I hope ), let's hope the weathers dry getting to old to be out in the rain.

There's a couple of cracking roads from Dumfries that would be well worth hitting on your way up.

Will probably just use motorways till we hit the A82, don't know what the road conditions are like up your way but down here there awfull, just back from Portpatrick & the main A75 was truly terrible, large holes everywhere, looking forward to the road by Loch Maree & the road from Fort William to Mallaig, been a couple of years since I've been up your way, can't wait.

Fort Bill to Eileen Donan Castle is nicknamed by us the supersonic speedway after turning road tyres into looking like track day rubber.

The run up to Mallaig is lovely too, a nice loop with the new(ish) bridge back from Skye

If you get chance from Ullapool head north to the Kelso Bridge as below and get some shots up there

Been round the top a couple of times, up to Tongue, will just be coming down to Inverness from Ullapool & then down the A9 to Perth & down to Dumfries, about 270 miles I think, 1 blade, 1 cb1000,RSV tuono & SP2, can't wait, been touring round Europe a couple of times & nothing beats the roads around the west coast, as long as it's dry & midge free.

From Inverness head East to Nairn and then take the rollercoaster road to Granton-on-Spey, Lecht, Braemar , Glenshee and Blairgowrie, then right to Dunkeld and the A9.

Epic route and road I love to bits

I would avoid the A9 from Inverness to Perth if at all possible. Average speed cameras and much more to spoil your day. Now that they've made a lousy road even more miserable they're talking about a real effort to fuck up any notion of fun on the wonderful A82. I read some crap about trying to market roads in Northern Scotland as a type of Scottish Route 66 to bikers and car drivers. Even more earning potential for the camera vans! Some beautiful roads up here and as Scotland is apparently devoid of all other crime the cops have nothing better to do than take money off road users. Enjoy but beware! ;)

You can make it more interesting, at Dunkeld do a dog leg over the A9 and cut the corner off by heading to Creif, then past Gleneagles (something like that anyway, you'll see it on a map lol)

Commonly known by our Northan members so I,m told as the " Washboard Road" on account that anything over 70 mph on some of it renders you airborne .......did it last year. .....and yes we were defo kissing the clouds
