Hey all, I am in the military and getting ready to move to the Lakenheath area, and I know that the MOT inspection is a lot more stringent than the US DOT inspections. I have a fender eliminator kit but no rear turn signals. I bought the rear turn signals and a stock fender kit, but alas the turn signals will not mount without some modification. Do any of you guys have a integrated taillight or should I not waste my money on one and modify the fender eliminator? Cheers , Gus
What bike have you got? Cant you just buy another tail tidy that will mount the numberplate and indicators. You also need a numberplate light and a red reflector on the rear of the bike.
I have a 2006 CBR1000RR...just bought the bike, but if I spend the money I want to be legal. I have attached a picture of what the previous owner did. I have reviewed the MOT rules, but did not see anything about the lights having to be so far apart or specifics on actual dimensions on taillights, except one time I saw something about 140cm's apart... Thanks for the quick replies. Gus
Yup there is a specific distance that the indicators should be apart . (don't know the measurement) but a lot of MOT testers are not too bothered .
I would fit mini indicators to the sides of the number plate bracket. Get it through the MOT and then take em off if you want to.?
You must have a reflector but you don't have to have a light . confirmed this on my last MOT ..... Cars yes , but bikes don't have to . The reflector gets most peeps thou
Intergrated light will defo fail...................fit a set of mini lamps and.....................get a baffle for that zorst cus it looks kinda like it might be a tad loud!!
No it won't . My last bike passed with 1 and my mates zx10 has just passed with 1 at a different testing station
It depends on the station, technically NT is correct their supposed to be a certain distance apart however, most won't be that anal and as long as it's got working winkers it'll pass, legal size plate is a must and a sticky reflector on the plate is ample! Just stick it on the wind flap plate for MOT use
As I see it......If its never had them (including the switch) then you dont need them for MOT.Up untill recently "Integral lamps" would normally fail because there was a pre-determained gap between lamps which you dont get with a integral lamp, however ,having looked at the updated version of the MOT guide it clearly says that if fitted should work, nothing about a gap between the lamps. Some testers may not be comfortable with this and may try and issue a "Day Time" MOT cert.Have you got front indicators fitted?
Its not applicable for the MOT (however some like to play God!), they should be 240mm apart to pass the Euro laws of manufacture, in other words the traffic police can say they are not OEM equipment and insist you correct them! I know first hand too, pays not to argue! As I say time and time again just coz it passes an MOT does not mean its legal for use on the UK roads!! Strange but true... So then you say whats the point of an MOT, well just to make sure the bike/car meets a standard of safety on the day of test not to check legality's.
May be wrong but i was under the impression that you did not have to have indicators but if you had then they must work!
I did on the 600 when it passed with an integrated tail light. I wa talking to the tester for a while and he was showing me loop holes in the MOT for future mods on the bike lol He said most people think a chain guard is compulsory . If the bike has a chain guard that is not fitted properly then it's a fail. If there is no chain guard at all then it's a pass So if you have a broken 1 just take it off
Why would you not want indicators anyway, sure it looks good but you might get someone wanting to take a closer look because he didn't see you turning? Get a R&G tail tidy and a small set of indicators and be done with it? For a bike the MOT test in this beautiful green land is not that tight to be fair and we all manage to get around any little problems?
