Looking to buy something second hand as only got about £300 to spare

Anybody recommend any sub £500 bikes I would pick up second hand.

It all depends on what you use it for, general use or serious off road stuff, I recently bought a boardman hard tail it's pretty decent and didn't cost a fortune

Bikescene at Guisborough (sorry, no idea how to put one of those link things in) are advertising a 2015 Specialized Hardrock SE Disc For something like £320. That would give you a canny bike within your budget, brand new with some warranty.

I've got the Hardrock Sport Disc with a couple of mods, had it for about 3 years, well punished but does it all on a budget.

Agree with above - better off buying new. Second hand mountain bikes can look a bargain but often stuff is worn out and can be expensive to replace. Its a good time of year to buy - plenty of bargains on older models as the 2016 models are coming out. Keep a look out on http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ etc. People quite often post info on bargain bikes here http://www.hotukdeals.com/ The Decathlon bikes http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ seem well rated and the should have something within budget.
