OK , this is a bit of a cheat Its a bloody long way to Mugello - to do it in 2 / 3 days = motorway pretty much all the way - so you may as well fly but.... A new freight company has launched which is offering a service for shipping your bike from Silverstone to Geneva - Bike is available from Wednesday morning, and then can be dropped for by following Wednesday for its return. You drop your bike off in advance and take a cheap flight to Geneva, collect bike and riding kit and have 3 days to go over alps down to Mugello, 2 days as circuit, then 3 days back to Geneva and fly home. price is £349 - £399 (£349 in April only) http://www.bikeshuttle.co.uk/ I am tempted to try it for the 2015 race end of May / early June
Think they don't do them on the days to make em work mate? Looked into this option couple years ago. Nice one though al! Ill have a look into this as me and Raff want to do this before rossi retires but like you say, option of riding down and back is a mission and almost two weeks cos of the gp and a refusal to ride motorways
Agree Jimbo - motoway is just pointless if that's all you do - the only exception is Italy where I know from time I did ride down the side roads were clogged - but that could have been my crap route from the Dolomites lol
It arrives Saturday morning - so you won't get to circuit till after qualifying so as Jimbo says it does not quite work out - for the return leg it def. works well, train leaves mid / late Saturday afternoon
Went there this year and rode back, left circuit at 6pm, got to Switzland at 10pm, Stayed overnight, then rode over 800 miles home in 16 hrs straight only stopping For fuel and food. I spoke the the guys on the stall at the show also, says that's when he started the company after a MotoGp Mugello trip. Seem really nice n helpful.
Fly bike Fly into Nice then down from there? Thats my first thought as I am going to do it before the GOAT retires too.
That's why I went this year as was going to announce if he was giving up if he did badly til Mugello !!!
Looking at the two choices, Geneva would be a better ride down, especially if went on the back rodes though the alps and through Switzland into Italy. Don't mind the ride down, it's just the long dash back on the motorway done it for us.
For me 3 days over the passes into Italy and down last bit on Motorway for a couple of hours is perfect. From nice you are soon Italy on main coastal roads. Lots of options mind! Return air fare is currently £65 but annoyingly different times different days and Tuesday times perfect but Wednesday not sp good
