OK - we all know the pro's and con's of it - as documented on here today. But having done the garden all day Sat / Sun combining this with a Birthday bash sat night and mum's bday sun night needed to get out. We left Warrington on BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY- me and a neighbour on a 675 triumph at 09:15 heading to Betws - y - Coed via the A55 for speed then dropping down to Pentrefoelas over the Denbigh moors (mint road highly recommended). Get's to Betws, have a brew and mount up planning to head toward Corwen, and then take the Corwen road past Llandegla. But the Triumph wouldn't start - no dashboard lights, no relay click nothing. A bike on the car park, Bandit, had jump leads?? with him still nowt. So he called his bank with which he has breakdown - they send out Green Flag which arrives in an X reg Escort Van with a bike trailer on the back made out of a Dolomite axle...... character to say the least. He jumps the bike of the Escort Van so we immediately kit up and get going. 15 mile up the road, same thing lights go off nothing. Now it's already nearly 14:30 so already now being late for a BBQ we both should have been at for 14:00 (and phones where blowing up from the wives....) he calls his bike insurance and finds out he has recovery from this. RAC are called and arrive at around 17:30 - I have sun stroke at this point and we are both dehydrating!! The nice RAC man jumps out the van and tells us "hey mate you know you can only get recovery for up 10 miles away"........ So cutting a long story short, which then involves getting another neighbour from Warrington out with a trailer to recover the bike and a now half cut Shawn courtesy of the White Lion @ Cerrigydrudion and me actually for once riding sensibly at the speed limit and going through 2 speed traps (feeling quite smug also…..) and getting to the BBQ for 20:00, if any of you guys out there have "breakdown" free with either your bank or bike insurance check the small print - I'll bet it's then next best thing to being useless. G
Sounds like you were having a bit of a nightmare. 10 miles from home is a joke. At those distances you would just go and get tools and come back. Thankfully I have the full cover (separate) so just dont add it with the insurers. Seems that is the best thing too.
