After killing my brakes at snett a few weeks ago, fade, squishy lever and finally pads went.. I thought its time to have a bit of a refurb. I went on the look for a few blades and asked what they were doing? What i got in reply ranged from "nothing!! they work fine" to "you need brembo everything, standard are crap!!!" Clearly there is a certain placebo effect to spending megga bucks on your brakes, I totally uderstand that, and a bit of bling never goes amiss if you are fortunate enough to have the means. All i can tell you for sure is after 2 track days (blyton and cadwell) on my new setup I cant imagine anyone could want more than i have!!! I have shorty levers and i can stand it on the nose from any speed with two fingers and no effort, The lever is solid, they dont snatch or fade, the only limiting factor now is overending or the the back wheel passing you on the way in but tbh its soooo controlable that you can touch the rear down to square you up with no real loss in braking!!! So what have i got??? Standard discs, standard master, hel x2 to master, brembo sc pads, cheapo 5.1 fluid If im honest the pads do cost a shitload but the are worth it, i will keep an eye on disc wear and currently there is a LOT of dust on the legs so i dont know how long it'll all last??? On the road ive only had a quick run out in the dry so i cant vouch for that (i dont really do the road anymore) but they seemed ok? Looking forward to doing bently straight on them to say for sure if i can get any fade out of them?? Im just gad i didnt spunk all my dosh on rcs and such..
Couldn't agree more. Always said I can loop my bike with two fingers, with plenty feel to know whats going on. So, a 2 finger squeeze can tip a bike, how can you possibly ask for more braking / tyre grip? All with standard stuff. Maybe i'm missing summat?
glad you like the brembo sc pads just fitted a set but not had time to bed them in yet. thanks for the feedback.
Got the same set up on mine Standard MC, discs, Hel 2 line race set up and asv shorties with the Brembo pads and first track day with this set up yesterday was fantastic, later on the brakes but with awsome stopping power and complete control and feel. I've just had the suspension set up as well so this too gave a feeling of complete planted braking from the front.
The Brembo SC pads are good but there are much better on the market than that and the stock brakes can be even better like you say, however I have the mega bucks GP4 calipers and T Drive discs, Hel lines and Brembo masters and they are about as far from stock as the earth is from the moon! I don't think it's a placebo.....lol Try SBS or Carbon Lorraine.
When it comes down to the good stuff, the bling or whatever remember you know you want it, you know you need it, it looks good, puts a smile on your face and does the bizz, don't justify why you need it, get a credit card stuff it on that, you only live once.... With some luck I will die owing millions to loan sharks with a big fat smile on my face......but more like I will live to a hundred and two and work my fingers to the bone paying it all off.....lol
Just a quick one seeing as we are talking brakes Arthur ? Do you sell Accossato gear Also agree my RCS M/C is fantastic and its not just because I paid a lot of money for it and it looks sexy, surprisingly it works as well ! Although good fluid and pads can make a big difference on std setups
Brembo RCS, Brembo fluid, Venhill lines, Monobloc calipers off 2009 model SBS dual carbon pads Standard discs get no brake fade running in Fast group 06 model
Dont get me wrong peeps :0) I'm not telling you what to do!!! I'm just sharing my findings.. I will probably still buy an rcs because they look great and im sure they are an improvement. I'm just amazed at how a little attention, thought and maintinance can transform what we already have!!! Brakes are fine as they are for me now which means????? Quickshift..... Arfur I need some advice???
