I have my old bike in the garage and I would like to do track riding with it.

Where do I start,, I see the track days do novice groups so the track bit should be ok.

So what do I do to the bike, it's a Yamaha FZ1s fazer, I have got it quite well sorted for the road, Nitron rear shock , Gilles rearsets, Pc3 , the bike goes quite well , about 145 bhp.

Do I take off the lights, indicators etc. ?

Should I take off the good condition front fairing and fit a used scruffy fairing?

And fit more crash bobbins etc ?

I have got myself an high top ford transit to transport the bike, so that's sorted.

You don't have to take lights off, you can just tape them up. If you are not using it on the road then maybe remove the indicators, or go all the way and buy some track fairings and remove al lights.

If it was me I would ride it as it is on a few track days to see if you like it first and then go from there.

Engine protection is always good in a spill, bungs are a personal preference as they can dig in on grass run offs and do more damage if the bike flips.

Book a road bike only day first and ride it as it is and go from there :)

    Don't do it lol! :D

I took my 2013 Blade on a 'one off' Track Day at 7 months old, loved it and thought, better buy a £2K Track Bike as can't afford to write off a new Bike!

£5K laters I had a dedicated ZX10R Track Bike!

I year later I binned it Big Time, bust 4 Ribs and cost me best part of £1500 to fix it.

Fast forward to March 2016 and the Voices in my Head made me buy a new £14.5K 2016 ZX10R just for Track use!

As someone on TDR once said......................

Racing/Serious Track Day riding makes Heroin Addiction look like a vague wish for sumat Salty! :p

Haha , love it, I love biking , road riding , done it for 25 years, had a dirt bike for fun, done many years downhill mountain bike riding when younger, two years ago rode the Nurbergring last year rode the formula one track at Nurberg, just done two visits to Ronhaslem race school, it does sort of grow on you.
Two mates of mine have just got track bikes so we are planning on a few track days and see how it goes.I am altering my bike so I can also still ride it on the road , it had high bars , a Fazer thou, so I have turned the bars upside down, ordered an R6 throttle tube, they are a straight fit and only 1/5th turn, so that should help.
Going on the Blade to see the Austrian Moto GP on 8th August so not doing anything until then, So looking for a track day late august or September..

Well I turned the Renthal bars upside down , fitted an R6 throttle tube, gives it a fast action throttle response.Removed the long mirrors, fitted a small rh one. Fitted a cut down screen.
Will adjust the rear sets a bit higher.
Took it out for a spin tonight, about 90 miles on some good roads, soon got the feel of it ,quite liked it .very pleased

I took my baffle out and made it twice as long and reduced the holes to reduce the sound, seems to have worked well.Hope it passes noise test now

Well the bike passed noise test 101 decibels,, we had a fantastic trackday, steady at first and gaining confidence all day, not many getting past me by the last session, i loved it.

    Nicely done mate :)

What did you think of those tires? I used them for a full day at Knockhill and they never let me down once, felt really good for me.

metzeler Z8 interact, i started using them as they were highly rated in the wet when road riding ,touring, they wear quite well, on the track as they heated up the sides were quite soft and grippy, the center quite firm,,we did one wet stint and i span the rear up a few times. My mate had the same newer race type road tyre and they behaved the same
