help please gang. my son is wanting to get into biking. 22 years old and had a full car licence since he was 17. on the back of his licence it shows AM & A. where does he start? does he need to do CBT? tried to find out, but it is very confusing to say the least. much easier in my day, 17 on a 250, pass test and away!! sorry if this is in the wrong section. help please many thanks mick
At 22 he can do the Direct Access course which is CBT then doing his Test on a bike over 35kW then he's away on anything he can insure. How To Get A Motorbike Licence - Confused.com
To do the direct access now you need to be at least 24 years of age (new licence laws that are now in practice from Jan 2013). At 22 he would need to complete the CBT, theory and then he could do the A2 test which would restrict him to riding a bike not exceeding 35kw which is 47 HP (Most manufacturers have restrictor kits to comply with the new legislation). After he has been riding on the A2 licence for two years he can then take the mod 1 and mod 2 test again which will entitle him to ride any size machine.
I got my test done quickly in 2007 at 18 before they started messing around with it. Timed it right! I wouldn't bother doing the tests now, too much hassle.
