well finally got to get out and open the bike up from first gear right through brilliant easily as quick as the bmws1000rr i was wondering after some of the reviews ive read thought i would have to down gear it no chance its a beast maybe having the cat away releases more power suspension wise compared to the bmw fantastic the bike is so small kneedowns will be no problem recap defo not putting the s1000rr down this is a comparison against the one i had which i never got on with
it was mate got the bike on november hadnt really had a chance to open it up through the gears so done it im a happy man its garaged up till better weather
thanks barney thought i would be going back the way with the zx compared with the bmw but im happy as mate
Which one Rab ???? Considering one myself but the more you look into the subject the more you find people having problems specific to the Gen4 ZX10R. A lot of people seem to find the Gen4 gearbox very sensitive to kill times depending on which gear and what rpm you are shifting at. I was thinking the HM Superlite mainly as its good value at £240 and seeing as I only use the bike on road I thought it would be OK especially as I would still use the clutch most of the time unless really pressing on in the twisities. However as the superlite is not adjustable kill time I m not sure its the right one but then for the HM Plus or Translogic IS4 which do have adjustable kill time your looking another £150 notes on top,
mate im thinking along the same lines as you hm superlite are you sure you cant adjust kill times on it
You can adjust sensitivity but not kill times on the superlite. I believe kill time is fixed at 65ms which is typical for a sportsbike. However saying that I've watched a few youtube videos on install and testing of the HM Plus which is there most popular model and has adjustable kill times and seems that is not perfect either. Different rpms in different gears will require different kill times, so unless you go for the HM GP your always at a compromise it would seem. In summary even if you have an adjustable kill time model the kill time will only suit one particular gear change scenario. For example you may set the kill time to 70ms so it works perfectly giving a super slick change at 10000rpm changing from 3rd to 4th gear but that won't be ideal at 6000 rpm and as you only have one kill time duration unless you spend a lot more money on the SS or GP versions you have a particular sweet spot where the shifter works. Taking this into account I think if you learn where the sweet spot is on the superlite you will be ok with a road bike application. If your not really gunning it use the clutch where if you on the pace and reving the engine out use the Superlite QS is my thinking. As the bike has a porgammable shift light we could even set the shift light to give us notice when the superlite is in the sweet spot for a change if that makes sense.
Would be great to here your thoughts. I definitely want one asap but a little skint at the moment as bought a shock and exhaust which has chewed up my spare cash.
Cheers Rab. Sounds great mate and would be really interested to hear how you get on with it. My birthday is next month so I'm hoping funds will allow a qs very soon.
