Hi all Its my first post on FBF so here goes. Did a goodly bit of racing in the 1980s Gs1000 prody bike and a bit on a TZ Yam early Gsxr 750 managed the ride in the Manx a couple of times, then kids appeared and that was that. Always wanted to get back to it so at 57 years young, I bought a cat c 04 (cause of damage brand new Michelin ct2 tyres and a bit too much right hand ) for £2100 this year with a view to track days on it. Damage basically a good ding/crack in the frame from bar end ,LH foot rest and LH plastics see pictures After a bit of tig welding and a few hours on eBay and a few more hours int workshop we have a runner cost so far £2280. I'll be interested to hear people's views on the welded frame , my own and my work colleges all engineers are that the damage is / was in a safe area and it was repaired by a well skilled welder . Away we went and got a mot and did a few miles on the road and was a bit gob smacked a how well it handled and how fast the thing is my other 2 bikes are a Yamaha Fazer 1000 and a Suzuki TL1000r. I know the Tlr is a bit of a old cart horse but I always thought it went pretty well, but the Honda is like a nippy little 250 at the side of it . Booked on a few track days 5 in total so far this year 3 of them turned out wet, just got two good days at Cadwell and Donington and started to get in to it a bit, ended up lapping at 1.57 -2.00 at Cadwell no great licks I know but it's a start . Anyway here is next year's plan Lap Cadwell under 1.50 - BY Using all the track and revving the bike a bit nearer the near redline! see video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxvRtvpHaaQ - opinions please Fitting race tyres Dunlop's or Pirelli's?-- or stick to road tyres ? - opinions please Fitting 320 diameter discs (brakes did start to fade a bit after a few laps ) - opinions please I don't see the point in spending any great amount of money on the bike over the winter although I already have a exhaust and power commander so i,ll fitt them and do the flapper mod then get it to a dyno (any recommendations for a dyno centre round west yorkshire .) thats all for now folks looking forward to any advice its all welcome
Welcome to the forum mate, you'll get better braking power with 320mm discs newer calipers like the later mono blocks would help also, have a set from 08 blade tokico mono blocks if your interested.
