Hi has anyone else had problems with new style key?

After about six months it was like i was using the wrong key. Couldnt get steering lock off and had to put effort in to just off /on !

Took it back to dealer ( where they put steering lock on then couldnt get it off again) Had new key under warranty but 3months on this key is jamming up too!

Its not the barrel ( use spare key thats like new and its perfect) its like the key is waring out?

    Any ideas ? Thankyou

Not sure if it's the same issue as it appears a bit different, but I had a real struggle at times after taking the steering lock off to switch the ignition on.

I realised you have to push down the key in the barrel and then turn to release the steering lock, then release the pressure and just turn for the ignition to go on.
I was sometimes still pushing down on the key when trying the second operation to turn to ignition on.

Now I have no issues......maybe I should have RTFM!

Thanks for the reply but this is not the issue. i avoid putting steering lock on(pressing down). from off/on i do not press down but find taking key out and turning round helps. Surly it should just work without the fath ?

I have had a few issues with mine as well, mostly it just takes a few attempts to get the ignition on, but once I did have to use the spare key to unlock it, worked OK again after that. Not been back to the dealer with it, as I can't replicate the problem consistently.

This sounds like a 'Honda anti theft device' if intelligent blade owners can't get the steering lock off what chance does your thick as s**t thieving toe rag have??

Mine was playing up recently. A bit of lock lube in the key slot seems to have sorted it a treat.

Getting a spare key cut is proving to be a bit of hassle as well. It seems the new style is in some way different. Loaded a new blank Honda key into the local key cutter's computerised key cutting machine - he selected Honda Fireblade from the menu - and it cut it all wrong even with the original as a template !

Having a bit of grief getting a spare cut at the moment (lost the spare in France I think).

Speak to Ken Hudson at Hudson Motor Co in Jersey mate. He specialises in cutting and coding keys for cars, he may be able to help.

    Hi
    Just a quick update.
I was on my 3rd key in less than a year so took it back to main dealer.
They are in the process of swapping out the lock set under warranty.
A 3 week wait because the parts are coming from Thailand (says it all really )

Have you tried a quick squirt of lithium grease in the keyhole? I find I have to give mine some every few months. Works like a charm afterwards

Hi, lock set replaced under warranty by main dealer. So easy to operate now silky smooth :). (Dealer said there was a manufacturing burr in the barrel that caused the problems) i can now use my steering lock :D
