Guys and gals, I’m in the process of laying a new concrete floor in my garage as the old one is knackered. I’m going to paint it eventually, is there a sealant or recommended method of sealing it first or just paint straight away? I’m going to let the concrete set for a few weeks before I do anything.

    Any thoughts?

    Rob

You can but concrete sealers from most places such as wickes, selco maybe even Screwfix or a local builders merchant. This will stop the concrete dust and water from being absorbed

Once you’ve done this you can use various types of floor paints which again you should be able to buy from the same places

I used to get the floor paint from decorator centres like dulux. See if you can find one in your area otherwise try the stores mentioned

Just follow the manufacturers instructions for the sealer which should also tell you how long after you can paint

I have painted a few over the years and never sealed, it’s more important that there’s no dust and concrete can be painted after 7 days

basically when your laying the floor when you are done spray it with a curing agent, it stops the water evaporating as quickly when the concrete is curing (and stops the top of the concrete drying out and you get the constant dust).

then paint the floor, dont bother with any shite out of the tin floor paint, you need a 2 part paint, for example

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hard-Wea...loor+paint&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313

you need to add a catalist to get it to set, once it does its more enamel like than paint like. if you havent sealed the concrete (i.e. you have already poured the slab) just get the 2 part paint. I moved house about 18 months ago and had a slab as sandy as a beach. put similar to the link above and it sealed it really good.

check the tin, 28 days is full curing time but realistically after 7 you are ok without adding anything additionally to the paint.

Thanks, I haven’t sealed it yet. It is a little dusty/sandy on the top but nothing that that paint won’t sort. Cheers for the link
