    Hey Guys,

New to the forum and thought I would add a picture of my new race bike that I bought last night.
Only Honda I've owned before was a UK NC30 and loved it. Really looking forward to getting stuck into a bit of work over the winter on this bike. Its a fairly stock bike with just new clip ons, rear sets, ohlins ttx and quick shifter.
So it would be great if anyone could give me any tips or tricks on things they think I should do. Needs new fairings, the ones that are on it aren't in great nick so will keep them for spares and get a nice new set

    Tips?

If you get a quickshifter, only use an HM one, definitely dont use Dynojet or Bazzaz, the early blades had a tendency to smash 3rd gear to peices if used with a fuel cut shifter, ONLY use an ignition cut shifter, run the right oil, dont be tempted to run poor quality stuff, oh, and a steering damper, the standard one (even if its adjusted using HRC ecu) is crap.

otherwise, welcome to heaven. i had one, but didnt enjoy it as much as my 07 variants.

The timing on the bazzaz units is never spot on, little bit too risky, and having seen 4 bikes (2 blades, an rsv4 and a bmw) all suffer from bazzaz induced gearbox implosions id rather not take the risk. its commom knowledge!

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping to ask a few more questions.

I started taking the fairings and tank off tonight just to get an idea of how the bike looked etc. Really happy with how it has been kept and all the wiring etc for the quickshifter is really neat. The quickshifter is a Cordona.

The first question I have is, when I was taking off the tank I noticed that only the main fuel line seemed to be connected and the two electrical cables there are two other pipes that were not connected to anything. Do they need to be connected to something and if so, what?

The bigger problem is that the previous owner had a low side on it about a year ago and it seems that he has on the bike really cheep crash protecters that I think may have bent the frame ever so slightly. Firstly when I took out the bolts they were super stiff and it looks like they have stripped the threads slightly, I'm not too worried about that cause I can rethread it or just put a longer bolt through with a nut on the end of it. I took this picture to try and show what I am talking about, there is a spacer between the frame and the engine and I'm guessing this is ment to be tight however mine seems to be slightly loose and you can rotate it, this is what has made me think the frame has been bent slightly.
What do yous think? maybe this is normal ( doubt it) and if it does mean the frame is bent slightly should I be worried?

Apart from this everything seems to be in Order so far, I'm sure I will find a few other wee bits but exhaust, radiator, wiring etc is immaculate.

    Thanks for the help

Hello mate, look forward to seeing the progress! In response to your spacer when I've taken my fairing off before including the crash bobbin mine has previously fallen out (well once) had to use a long screwdriver to lever the frame a smidge to get the spacer back in...if that gives you any indication against yours?? Probably not but thought I'd share it with you :)

Thanks, thats what I expected. Mine is a little bit more free than that it seems to have about half a mill on either side of the spacer to be able to move around so must have bent something a bit.

Photo of how the bike is currently sitting

If I owned an RC30 I would have it in my living room aswell :) I knew a guy who owned a Ducati 999r and used to wash the wheels in his bath :p

I don't know if you have ever been to Joeys bar in Ballymoney (Northern Ireland) they have one of Joey Dunlops RC45's hanging on the wall :)

Joey's rc45 is a gorgeous bike. Comes down every year before NW200 for a clean. Gary Dunlop looks after it very well.
