If i change my rear sprocket (2011 model) to a larger one, 42T to a 43t , can you still use the std chain( same amount of links) or do i have to change the chain for more links. I have searched on here but cant find an answer.
I can't see there being a problem with only +1 on the rear. I'd check first though that there was enough play at the chain tensioning points.
Yes, i have just had a thought, i think Jamiehrc/JamieRep, changed his sprocket to a 44t , not sure if he changed the chain aswell. I will p.m. him to see if he did.
You can't put in one link due to the way the chain side plates work ... so it would be two links I suppose the answer would depend on how many miles the chain has done ... any tight spots , how much can you lift it from the rear sprocket
So easier to change to a smaller front and tighten the chain, any reason that you wouldn't consider that option?
I suppose if i drop the front down a tooth( and a 43t rear), that will solve my problem? -1 front & +1 rear = better acceleration. Please feel free to correct me on my assumption.
Errm no, how much are you looking to change the gearing? +1 on the rear wont change things too much, but -1 on the front is like going +3 on the rear or more, what are you looking to achieve?
Put a Talon +2 on the rear,no problem with chain.2011 bike too.You will lose top end speed but boy its worth every penny.
leave the rear sprocket and drop one down on the front sprocket, that'll surely be enough for road riding
Yep, and went up 2 on the rear - but that was on my 04 - it was a bit too much tho! Then there was the issue of the speedo being out so needed a Speedo Healer. +2 on the rear on the 04 was a good mod, but have not seen the need for that or anything else on my 12.
