Hi all, long time reader and infrequent poster. I made a mistake to trust a lad and buy his bike without viewing. The upside is, I did receive the bike. The problem the bike came with is, it has a rough idle, the fuel pump doesnt stop priming, and bike cuts out when reved slightly, which is more apparent when engine is cold. I'm getting fault code 29 which is to do with the idle control valve. The seller believes it's something to do with the old fuel. So far I've changed the fuel and tried a different fuel pump. Any suggestions? Was thinking it may be an injector as it is possibly not building pressure hence the fuel pump not stopping and poor idle, but it doesn't explain the idle control valve code.
IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) circuit malfunction. Like most codes it could just mean that the IACV has detected a rough idle and will clear (or can be cleared) once the fault has gone. Fuel pressure can be measured with the right tools, but what year and mileage is the bike as I've seen so many problems caused by a faulty spark plug.
Thanks Muffking. It's a 2012. Has a HRC loom fitted if that makes a difference. And it's 11k on the clock
Do you know if it ran ok previously with the HRC loom and is the ECU different to the original Honda one? If it were me then I'd have it on a rolling road first with a fuel pressure gauge attached to see if low fuel pressure is what's causing the pump to run continuously and the bike to stall when reved.
I've been told it runs fine. And it's has got a few TD stickers from the summer on the fairings. Going to stop the top down to see if there is anything obvious, change the spark plugs and check the injectors at the same time.
Update - speak plugs removed. Cylinder 1 spark is wet. Prior to removing, I run the bike for a while and the cylinder 1 header appears to not get hot. So basically cylinder 1 isn't firing. Need to understand why it isn't firing now. New spark plugs on the way, swapped the coil with cyl4. Also waiting for some new air trumpets as the person who was in there before appears to have loctited the screw holding the bottom of the airbox in. Pita
Changed spark plugs, all cylinder firings but idle still not great. Swapped out the IACV, setting as per factory instruction (screw idle valve all the way in) and idle too high at 2k. Screwed out a 3 turns and all seems well. Bike sounding as it should. Now to take it for a test on track....
Well done. If there is a rolling road near you then a £50 run would confirm if all is ok and if you need to adjust the IACV a bit more..
