Right all I am looking at a new visor for the summer to fit my Arai Rx7 Gp. Now I have always used racevisors etc... good service but now looking at £50 +. So was looking around and seems eBay I can get them from £20-25. OK not official Arai Visor but the reviews seems to be very good. IE: as good as the official stuff for much less

Anyone used a non offical visor? how well did it fit and last?

Next Question. Mirror or iridium visor? I will be going for a dark one but has had a mirror visor on my Shark lid

Are the iridium one's looked down like if you get a Iridium screen?

    Any views on this?

    I like these

Tried an aftermarket iridium on an Arai and I wouldn't buy another. It seemed thicker and less flexible and didn't want to attach/detach as easily as the genuine ones, and they're bad enough at times.

Not sure about the non official visors, but i have had a iridium visor before and after a while with cleaning those bugs off the iridium coating started to fade and i ended up with faded and see through patches on the visor.

I am not sure I'd be buying aftermarket visors. I know genuine visors are expensive but surely it is worth paying the extra for piece of mind. Why bother with Arai if you are going to put a cheapo visor on it. False economy.

Non OE or cheap things does not always mean it's going to be worse does it? you don't buy the same chain you get a better one that may be cheaper. you don't buy the OE tires as others are better and possibly cheaper.

What makes all good quality non genuine visor worse than a Genuine one?

Just asking as you make a good point but just wondering

Just wondering is a fair comment.
But I wouldn't risk my sight on a just wondering. You won't know until it is too late.
I would quite happily fit OEM parts to my bike. But you do have a point on that front.
I have given up on eBay for certain items, as I had too many problems with counterfeit goods. A visor might be another of these poor quality goods.
As the saying goes, you pays your money you takes your choice.

A mate of mine told me of a demo he saw of an Arai vs a non Arai visor.
The demonstrator flexed and banged the Arai to the point you would think it would shatter but it didn't. Did the same with the non Arai and it did.

In addition I had a bits of a wing mirror hit me at motorway speeds, you could almost hear the visor say 'pfft', so for visors, deffo geniune only.

There will be excellent non Arai visors on the market but also really poop ones, genuine Arai you know what you are getting.

With regards to Iridium, never had a problem with the plod, but I only use in daylight. Also I do always carry a spare just in case.

    good reply's chap.

I will confess to driving my windscreen less kit car at motorway speeds for many miles. I know the effects of small stones and fly's and rain hitting my head.

As for protection my eyes, thats a must after having a cataract removed only a month ago and having another done in 2 weeks

I've bought aftermarket black and iridium visors for my rx-7 off eBay, never had an issue but I have had to drill my own pin lock holes on a couple of them in the past, but now I can get a pinlock ready and vented black one for £20 - that's three of them for the cost of one with an Arai wrapper on it? No contest.

It's tempting to save some money on aftermarket non-genuine visors but ultimately it could compromise rider safety, reduce the longevity of the product and cost you more money in the long term.

    About Arai Visors
"The Arai visor itself may not look very spectacular, but in fact it is. It is made of incredibly strong special polycarbonate, either thermo plastically heat formed or injection moulded. All Arai visors are aerodynamically shaped, optically correct and preformed with a 3D shape for better vision, less distortion and UV ray protection. The 3D shape smoothly follows the curves of the outer shell, while maintaining excelling optical properties. Highly resistant to scratches it is available in several colours, smoked tints and mirrorized finishes. The 'demist lock' prevents fogging of the visor, which is also very effectively prevented by the use of the optional (standard for some models) Pinlock inner shields."

    Reasons to buy Genuine
Quality - Made in the Arai Factory in Japan
    Arai quality Tested
    Carry a full Arai Warranty
    Optically Correct
    Highly Scratch resistant
Fully compatible with the holder set and mechanism
Not using genuine visors damage the holder set
Correct fitment, Air and Noise sealing

I've always bought new visors at the shows and always branded OE, but have always managed to get a good price for them with a bit of footwork and some haggling and asking about forces discount.

I would rather pay the extra for something that's tried and tested than save money on something that might not have been! Especially when it comes to safety.
