Will our Sony surround sound system operate with the Panasonic one? ie can I just plug the various cables into the back of the Panasonic tv? Thanks

Would it not be easy to try? You could have your answer already?

if they both have a optical connector just connect them both, if not you should be able to use the ARC on HMDI

Very true. There are however; 8 million wires behind the tv!

Best option is HDMI if your TV and Sound System support ARC, that way it will automatically use the Sound System and control the volume using your normal remote. If not then optical is the other optpn, or if older then maybe RCA (red, white, yellow).

We have a Bose soundbar with a Sony TV connected via HDMI on the ARC enabled connector and it works well. Occasionally tries to use the TV speakers if we have the Sky box turn everything on rather than turning the TV on first.

    That's not very fair, Raph.;)

I see @Great Guy as a meticulous person who would rather approach a task with knowledge and confidence than venture forth with reckless abandon and therefore risk damaging his precious new system.

The best advice I can offer for this is that GG should use Gold Plated leads for the best connection and sound reproduction.:D:D
