It sounds serious which is gutting. Statement says doctors working hard and gone in for surgery.

    Fingers crossed he pulls through.

Just been announced that he has suffered serious brain damage. Doesn't sound good.

Lets hope the diagnosis is wrong and/or premature.

Looking at the damage on the car It's pretty serious I'd say..... hope the outcome is more positive and he pulls through.

Last update I saw really makes me worry - cranial trauma and placed in an induced coma

Feels crazy he can race at 200+ speeds for those years, then this happens

The latest news doesn't sound good. Awesome racer and seems a genuine nice guy. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Hearing this and John McPint's news in the same week, not good.

Think this just highlights how relatively safe racing circuits are and how dangerous public roads can be.

It's totally gutting. So many a-holes in the world and this happens to one of the nicest guys in the paddock.

I remember being at Donni years ago for the Motogp and he came past on his scooter. I called out to him and he stopped, came over, signed my ticket and thanked me for my support. Totally down to earth and a humble guy. You never hear a bad word about him from anyone else on the racing scene.

Hope he pulls through but I fear his riding days are over. :(

I read some comment by a bloke who claims to know a doctor working with the team looking after Hayden, also Motogpmatters has confirmed he has multiple chest fractures, broken pelvis and leg as well as serious skull fractures and brain trauma, his brain signals are also very very weak/low. Not trying to be morbid with details but just saying what seems to be confirmed.

I'm afraid it's not looking good for Nicky. I just wonder what the hell happened and what was the driver doing!? Close rumours are that the driver was on their phone and travelling in the same direction as Nicky's bike.

I wonder if it's just coincidence or some craze going around Italy at the minute with knocking people off bikes, what with Chris froome and two others recently.

yes it looks like it was on a dead straight road, the car was on wrong side of the road by the look of the pictures (although pictures can be decieving as vehicle can end up a different place after the crash) but either that or the bike pack was on wrong side which I doubt very much?, distraction from mobile sounds a reasonable hypothesis  about time car makers implemented a car divice that blocked mobile phone while the ignition is turned on...

He wasn't out in a bike pack. He was only out with one other bloke, his last photo is on Instagram, but I read somewhere he was by himself when the accident occurred.

Oh right, I read he was with 14 others but did think that was strange as no one else was hit? Does anyone actually know what the hell happened here, apart from the car being on the wrong side of the road and hitting Haydon head on, amazed Hayden didn't see the car coming at him on a straight like that? :(

Read the link to official story from Earl Hayden that's on Twitter and assume other social media platforms. Evidently a lot of fake news and assumptions being put out including by some so called proper news sources. Evidently riding alone, no surgery performed and not in an induced coma.

All hoping for Nicky to pull through

Just hope the poor bloke is OK. I have liked Nicky Hayden since he came on the scene winning the AMA Superbike Championship on the RC51 back in the day.
