anyone get it? I find on runs over 30 miles of hard riding the front brakes seem to fade a little with the lever feeling spongy. new oil and bleed but still it keeps happening, I take it braided lines are the only answer ?
Fire down to bikebitsni and get some HEL lines on Im running standard calipers with hel lines and a brembo MC and no fade so far
I heard that so thought I would change the fluid while at it, will look into the brembo MC and lines next cheers
I had a problem with it on my zx6r, if its still not getting any better then I found using RBF660 fluid did help too. Also make sure youre calipers are good and clean, a binding pad would generate heat and cook fluid. I can rebuild them for you handy enough if youre near dundonald
How much meat is left on the pads mate? If the linings get too low it can lead to the pads heating up more than normal and this heat get transferred into the fluid and causing fading.
Zipp Tieing your brake lever to the bar for 24 Hrs after an initial bleed then do another bleed after the 24 Hrs can give excellent results. Hel lines are a must too IMHO
try this next time you bleed, this will reduce the amount of air you might have in the system. http://1000rr.co.uk/maintenance/11853.htm Also I'd recommend ATE Blue racing fluid, performance is up there with Motul and Bremo ( and dare I say it Castrol SRF) racing fluids but a damn sight cheaper(£10 per litre). Also as it is blue in colour you know when the old fluid has been flushed out. In any case the B.P of this stuff is much higher than most of us could reach in fast road conditions. As said, check how much pad you have left and your shims are clean as this greatly affects heat transfer. Also check that you pad are not binding and the vents are clear and free of brake dust. I also am planning to fit braided lines as well as a new M/C, either a R1 Bremo unit or if one comes up at the right price, a Brembo RCS.
yeah pads have loads of life and everything is dust free, its fine for the first while.could pull rolling stoppies at any speed but once there is a lot of heat in them the fade starts, noticed it more with the freak warm weather Ireland has got this year. the lever comes into the bar more once it starts to play up.
oem I think, belfast honda fitted them 1k miles ago which was a bit odd as the bike only has 2.5k on it so they might be a different brand or the last owner had the same problem.
I get the same problem. I have bled the system at least 6 times now and it has not cured it. I run the pad without the shims though as this does stiffen up the feel a little. I think the master cylinder is the culprit so will change for a Brembo 19/20.
Hi mate I have this a bit and fitted some SBS pads and AP66 brake fluid that really improved the bite of the brakes. I am also having braided lines fitted next week, not HEL as you have to compromise on fitting the dooberys (can't remember right now) so having a custom braided line kit fitted by I think a german manufacturer which has all the nice adaptors to not have to compromise. Then it will be the Brembo master cylinder over the winter. If braided lines, new pads and Brembo MCS don't work then I will look at air brake options
I used to get bad brake fade on track with a standard set up but not on road you must be pushing it, but like others have said the brembo is a fix for any brake fade on road or track . Do look on eBay as second hand ones do come up .
cheers all, yeah the section of road we use is about 50 miles of redline fun so they do get tested a lot lol. think the brembos on my duke spoilt me a little. so thats more for the shopping list
see suzuki are recalling tokico brakes for spongy feeling, wonder if thats why I get the same feeling with mine too.
I have massive respect to Suzuki for doing this, the damage to the brand and the actual cost is potentially massive. Surely the MCs used in hondas ,Triumphs Kwaks are similar so they will be forced to follow suit
