The mixture…Take a Panigale, add a sunny Sunday afternoon, add 125 miles, a cup of coffee and a natter, then add another 125 miles. The Result…A Monday morning with a neck that feels like it’s broken, arms that can’t be lifted above my head and knees that no matter what I try and tell them to do seem to have a mind of their own. I can tell you it’s not a good feeling. I had to go over to the Midlands to sort out some problems my oldest son is (correction now should read ‘had’) with the lad who rents his one of his spare rooms. As the weather was so nice I decided to go on my bike instead of taking the car. It was a great ride along the A14 and up the M6 etc, and surprisingly not too many idiots on the road. A very quietly worded conversation was had with said lad who very obligingly agreed to get his act together and move out by the end of the month, all done without any need for threats of physical violence. A cuppa with my son and I was back on my way for a swift but uneventful ride home. Then I tried to get out of bed this morning…………… to the sound of much giggling and general piss taking from L……. I am coming to the conclusion that I am clearly not bike fit and probably just to bloody old for such a focused superbike. Now where did I put the ZZR1400 brochure?
Some of that will no doubt be bike fitness mate. Uprights ain't always instantly more comfortable, well not at least not for me. Jumping on the monster can lead to me having aches I don't normally get if I haven't rode it for a while.
You need more bike time. Have been on the bike a lot more lately and am slowly getting it back, mind you the calves are killing me as I haven't cycled in about 3 months.
Nooooo! Don't say that! Considering swapping me Blade for 1098S to keep my interest up till next March!
At 58 I feel like that most days and that's without a ride If I had done that many miles I would probably be in bed for a few days. I used to be able to do hundreds of miles in a day and not feel it. As I have got older the aches and pains come quicker and last longer. In my case it's arthritis and any prolonged period in any position doing anything causes pain during and after , it's one of the joys of getting older. Not going to give up riding though, I can always pop some pain killers and anti inflammatories
You just need a few more rides like that and your muscles and bones will fuse in the correct position. It's all about evolution...
Looks like you had a narrow escape there old chap. If things had turned 'ugly', at 52, and being so unfit you'd have been a push-over for that young lodger.
Definitely more time on the bike - I can give you 10 years and I managed Redditch to Aberystwyth no stops there or back last week.
Bugger all that faff stop moaning and get on with it. The alternative is to go downhill and act your age. Me ? Well I'm gonna get old disgracefully hope I'm still riding me blade when I'm 80. My saying is 'as long as I can get me leg over !'
