I been talking to a chap and he said that he's been told not to use tyre warmers on wets due to heating up the tyre too much and them loosing oils and grip Do anyone use tyre warmers in the wet? I had no issues when I used mine at Silverstone. Just wanted to find out if it's recommended or not
No, never have, as recommended by the Tyre Guys. They say 'let the heat come to you in the wet' not tother way round which can lead to an off!
I always was told and now i seem to see in the race paddock also come in with wets whack tyre warmers on the wheels switch on 20 mins before going out set tyre pressures to 34-34 . this was on race tech rains (new). Both knees down seemed to handle lovely when me and Tyke had 2 days on um paddling around
I was told only use warmers for a short period before using them. U live and learn. always good to find out the right way to treat your tyres
tbh it's not the rubber as such that gives you grip with wets,it's they fact they cut through the water, but getting them warm will help. i the issue with warmers is that you'll find you have more grip whe you go out than say 2 laps later, most people i know will give them a blast on the warmers, then turn off 20/30 mins before going out,but leave the warmers on the tyre
I am still unsure about this and have spoke to different tyres guys and been given different answers and have had the same view as what sinewave has said and also Scooby. I only started putting wets on warmers this year and pretty much do as Scooby said stick them on and switch off(if I remember)20 mins before I go out and leave warmers on and I do feel them when I come back in and there is always some heat from them but certainly don't have any grip issues a few laps in to the session when maybe they do start to cool a bit ,so I will continue to use warmer but have also been told it does depend on what brand of tyre you use.
some warmers have dual programs, 80° and 55°, the 55° is for WOW's. I sometimes do, but usually don't, only cause I'm too lazy and it's too much work. Riding in the wet takes me about 10mins to get in a rythem, and once I do I love it, and not too slow either
I stick them on for about 30mins before going out and have no problem getting kneedown`s in the wet. Walking through the paddock on a wet day and I would say it`s 50/50.
I have to say I've tried it both ways and have found IMHO no detectable difference TBH so why bother with the extra hassle and wear n tear on ya warmers? Just park up and ride!
because,as with most things that we do that has no real need,it gives some people that little bit more confidence,i usually put them on,last time out in the wet i didn't and guess what happened.......
