Lockdown project #432 - install Oberon clutch slave cylinder to my 2005 RR5.

Very nicely made bit of kit - well packaged and good instructions. By far the most difficult part of the installation was simply removing the old gasket, which had properly welded itself on and in places where access is limited.

Pretty easy to bleed - followed internet wisdom and filled the slave cylinder first to make the process a bit less painful.

Net result: I'm not blown away, really. The diameter of the piston is slightly different to standard so that the effort at the lever is reduced - and it is, but the trade-off is the increased distance you have to move the lever through before it disengages the clutch. In my case, I had to set the span adjuster quite a way out it order to get the bite point anywhere vaguely comfortable.

I find any benefit of reduced effort at the lever is lost by the increased distance you have to move the lever through - for town riding (and sadly this is common for me) it's not really been a game-changing mod. In fact, if anything, I have a few more cringe-worthy gear changes than before the install - although it might just take more time to build muscle memory.

It's possible there's some air trapped in the line - but it doesn't feel like it - the lever is firm and consistent.

Anyway, just thought I would share my experience.

I have a story that will make you feel a bit better. I fitted one to my VFR, I was testing it out on the centre stand in the garage with the engine running. Just wanted to drop it into gear and check the bite point etc. I'd forgotten to take the security chain off the rear wheel.....the wheel span round and cracked my hugger

I notice you don't have a gear shaft support.
I'd wager you'd find that a far better mod. Maybe make that project #433 ?

@CharlieR85 thanks, I took comfort from your story. I sympathise entirely - such things bring out my inner Basil Fawlty, which is never far from the surface.

@GappySmeg excellent suggestion, looking into it...
