All this recent talk of M4's and HPK's etc etc has got me wondering! What type do other OEM use on their standard Bikes, like Aprilia's RSV4 Factory, BMW HP4s, Triumph's 675R various Ducati etc etc? Do they use HPK's or better or just stick with the Cooking M4's?
The list I posted in the other thread showing all the bikes using the same pads would lead me to believe that they all use m4's although some are modified m4's because of the smaller 32/34 pistons where as the standard m4's use 34/34 pistons. The hpk uses a different pad type with retaining pins on the top.
Most Aprilia use 4 pad Brembo from the 999 etc (M4 on late and seen some pics of M50s that's odd as they were claimed to be unique to the 1199), 1199 uses the new M50 and is nothing like any of the others ratio wise and is unique to that bike, the other new Ducatis use another new Brembo caliper like Suzuki but a new range and in 100mm, 1098/1198 and 848 Evo use M4 34x34 as do the D16RR and a few others as said, the S1000RR also use a 4 pad caliper again from the 999 it's the HP4 that runs a monoblock. Suzuki also use a caliper produced for them by Brembo on the new bikes. The models and mix up is endless and even includes a good number of KTMs and Triumph that share 4 pad and M4s too. Also the pad pin does not always mean HPK range I am sorry to say.. The M50 http://www.brembo.com/en/News/Pages/M50-EICMA.aspx was all new when the 1199 was released and proves why you must understand ratios as I have droned on about on here so many times! ShiySideUps list reveals all the bikes that use M4s, also that pad is used in a number of other calipers too, GP4RX (NOT to be confused with the RR) and the all new .484 (484 is the displacement of fluid in cubic inches and is very much the same as the GP4RX only in nickel or black and in both 100 and 108mm, I think they even now do one for the R1, Brembo have an ever increasing range of calipers and it's getting bigger and bigger!
That pretty much sums it up Arthur, manufacturers go to Brembo with a specific requirement for a specific bike where Brembo take those requirements and effectively create a custom calliper that meets the spec! Brembo starts that process off by taking there off the shelf calliper specs and then modify it to meet the requirement hense why from the outside Brembo callipers fitted to newer bike models look the same as there off the shelf product and use same pads but the differences are all internal which only really Brembo know exactly (others may be able to measure if they get the callipers in hand). Am I on the correct line or way off base in my thinking?
I'd go with that, as most know many other manufactures produce perfectly good brakes, ISR, AP and many others but people see the Brembo brand and assume that's top of the line, shame they don't see the difference from a Brembo caliper mounted to a scooter to those that run in MotoGP....lol
