Having new windows fitted beginging of next month and re rendered so thought id chip back round the windows so the lads could crack straight on when they come oh f@@k the brickwork underneath is totally shagged!! Wifes gone to see her dad in hospital n shes gonna go nuts when she sees what ive done phoned the builder to see what he says about brickwork. May not be out wi the Lincolnshire boys tomorrow LOL
Woopsadaisy,at least you found it now than during the winter. It would have fell off otherwise.A good plasterer would have that sorted in a couple of days mate.Only thing is is how much more will he/you find? My old house had to have all of the rear outside wall done, scaffolding etc.Bits fell on to the bathroom roof while I was having a S,S,Shave spooked the f*ck out of me.
It's a married man thing, Martin. The fact that the wall was rotten anyway has no bearing on the fact that in wife-vision, Dave took tool to what was, a perfectly serviceable wall and afterwards looked like the Colosseum. Ergo, it must be his fault... Standard Wife Operating Procedure V1.0
Didn't matter who found it, Dave. That wall needs sorting. You simply started the repair a day early.
Well the builder nipped round earlier and set my mind at ease saying hed seen worse an it wasn't too bad and not to worry so I carried on and uncovered this a totally rotted wooden lintel WTF!
Yep dave you're going to need a new lintel.... lol.A good builder will sort that out no probs.. Don't touch anything else tho....
Hi Ash thought it would be a straight forward job! knock old render off,new windows in,re render what could possibly go wrong. that part of the house is from 1870s set of Victorian workshy bodging bas@@rds!! LOL
Ive just let the O/H (builder) look at your photo`s...He said "No worries",Best order a concrete lintel.... That bit of rotten wood could be an old window frame and you had no lintel to start with...
Before I read the words having seen the pics I was going to ask how the driver was, the ford focus driver that hit your house, At least you have found it now before the bricks blow in the winter as the new render falls off. Must have been a shock though
Wonder if the property was once a shop as that length of rotten timber looks over long as it seems to span both windows .it looks like the bricks may actually be solid with the the fronts well weathered .Keep in mind that the 1st floor joist may run onto the wall above the window so if they do you will need some basic propping to stop the floor from sagging once the old timber " lintel" or support is removed .I can't tell by the photo with the bricks removed from under the window if it is a cavity wall construction and this will decide the correct method and use of lintel .although it appears bad this is a typical bread and butter job for a decent window fixer / small builder 1 days work plus materials and trestle scaffold should sort it out.Dont lose any sleep dude .
