As per title where is the best place to get the bits for a oil service from my nearest dealer is honda farnham is this the best place ? Or can I get cheaper online or from a parts dealer Also what oil/brand is recommended for a 08 cbr 1000rr? Many thanks
I use castrol power 1 racing 10w30 fully synthetic, oil filter is from honda as is pretty good, don't forget aluminium washer for sump plug bolt
I went with the same as sps above. You can buy oil/filter together on ebay, I bought seperate last time as I needed the fluted tool to get the old filter off.
Honda OEM kit includes the wrench adapter cup (??) you use to remove and torque the filter. If you don't need that, then you can buy the filter only which is cheaper. Hiflow have very good reputation (that I know of) but otherwise OEM is all the way for me. And don't forget the washe sps mentioned the oil he mentioned is the original Honda specified brand and type. just make sure you don't overfill the engine
I did an in-between main dealer oil change service myself using a Honda genuine oil filter /sump washer & 10w/40 Castrol power 1 racing from Halfords. My main dealer also used 10w/40 castrol power 1 racing for my first service oil change last year.
Great thanks couple of different responses regards oil Is 10w/40 or 10w/30 the best /correct oil for 08 model ?
From the service manual, 10w30 but you can use 10w40 more important is the 10w part the 30/40 is to do with ambient temperature range
For my filter I use one that fits the Honda civic of the same year. Much better filter at about the same cost. using tapatalk
Wow I thought this group did it's research. Think you need to all do some on oil filters media and flow rates. While your all being so anal, yet not looking up facts. Kinda like computer motherboards. There are only 5 manufacturers of them regardless of the name on them. The So roll your eyes are make other sarcastic remarks, I just let's me know how knowledgeable and ignorant you are. using tapatalk
I need to do an oil service on my 08 blade What do you need the oil filter tool for? I normally tighten filters by hand, and remove with a chain tool or similar Does anyone bother doing the air filter? Is it worth it?
went to a car boot last week picked up a air filter for an old Cortina cut it down with a pair of scissors fits the blade a treat
Yes, I suppose I am. My apologies if I offended anyone. everything going I do is serious. Making that perfect Li en at the perfect time, executive get the perfect pass. Being technical is very fun to me. I didn't understand the joke. I'll go back to hiding under the bridge and keep my mouth shut. using tapatalk
What is this washer your talking about ? I have never needed one on my r6, about to do my first change on the blade, do I need a washer ? If so what size and is it any old washer or do I have to pay through the nose from a dealer ? Tell me more !!!
Julian, the washer the guys are speaking of is the sealing washer that you will find on the sump plug. As a matter of course it should be replaced but you can sometimes re-use the existing one but they are only pence to buy.
