I've been keeping an eye on my oil usage on my 2011.
I did an oil change just before my Italy trip, and in 3,393 miles I've used 400 ml of oil. A mixture of caning the life out of it and touring..
Not bad considering the horror stories on the net, and Im quite happy putting the odd 100 ml or so between oil changes, which I will do another one next week, this time I'm going to try semi to see if it uses less.
    :)

Thats about the same amount that mine burns. Doesnt bother me as it only requires a top up every couple of months

Same here no issues (wonder if they are screwing the stick in and then checking?)

That is good to hear, that kind of amount i can cope with ... 1 litre every 1000 miles is just too much.

All the blades I service use around a 100ml per 1000miles so you guys are all on the money, let's face it for such a high performance motor that's not bad at all IMO.

The way I see it (a luddites point of view) it needs petrol and oil to make it go. How much oil it burns doesn't really concern me as long as it sounds ok and isn't barfing plumes of smoke out of the 'zorst. I dont have mechanical sympathy, but I do oil n filter every 1500 miles as I believe oil 'STARTS' to break down at this point. Arthur?

I think mine uses a bit more than what everyone on here as said, but .. i dont really check it, i get Lewis to check it for me, cos i cant be bothered :D I too dont have mechanical sympathy, maybe that contributes towards the extra oil used?

Haha that's what I need someone to check my oil and fix my bike.... Blaggers tbh going by what the oil companies say oils are quite safe well over 1500 miles and they stick by the guidelines set out in the owner manual for service intervals on oil changes, that said my views change depending on use and conditions used within, I change my oil each year regardless of mileage and I do my changes to tie in with the bike sitting up over winter in other words I leave it sat with fresh clean oil also I think changes of 1500 miles for a road thrashed bike are a good idea as any changes remove clutch partials and other worn materials from the engine and help prevent engine ware I don't think you could name a point in time where an oil starts to loose it's viscosity and other lubricating properties however again I can contradict myself as I do trust in some oil stabilisers that can be used in certain circumstances in particular bikes. As for the blade well when you think of high performance motors like this you can only benefit from regular oil changes as long as they do not cause stress to oil filter mountings and drain plug threads etc as a result of regular changes. At the end of the day regular oil changes and use of high quality correct grade oil and filters can only prolong performance and help to maintain a heathly engine and gearbox.

My 08's a thirsty bugger. 750ml-1 ltr every 1-1,500 miles. Not complaining though.

Resurrecting an old post, i just added 750ml after 350 miles. My local Honda dealer emailed Honda who said to fill, seal do 500 and measure as it was excessive but all work would be chargeable as out of warranty (2011). Anyone here had this and got Honda to honor the fault. Had the bike a year and always been like this but never got round to doing anything about it till now.
