... To use Phillips screws to hold seat down?! One is out, other is jammed solid despite plus gas and impact driver. Any ideas? I don't fancy hitting it too hard ...
Try pushing down on the seat mate. Sometimes the screw gets wedged against the edge of the thru hole.
Who put them bolts in?? They don't have to be tight. Only need to be 4.3nm. Mine come out easily without any problems using a screw driver. Has the thread been stripped?
That would be me. They weren't put in tight as I've read before they can be an arse to remove. The thread hasn't stripped yet but matter of time. Finding it more and more difficult to get a grip on the Phillips head ... I just want it off now and will replace with stainless hex bolts.
Try a bigger phillips head. Then use a hammer to tap the screwdriver into the bolt Or get a dremmal and cut a slot big enough to accept a flat head screwdriver. But you're right the bolts are made of cheese Hence why am replacing most of the visible bolts with Ti replacements where I can
Elastic band over head of screw (between screw and driver) Also but other screw back in to release some pressure
had trouble with this first time I had the seat off. tighten the good side fully apply some weight to the seat and try to loosen the stuck side. As Colin said the nut and bolt needs to be aligned to easily loosen.
I'm worried about this too on mine given the grief that I had getting one of the lower fairing bolts off previously. Must do the same thing the next time I whip the seat off.
Tried everything ... Drilling was last resort. You cant hit it too hard with impact driver as you will damage subframe mount ... Drilling took five mins and was safer.
