I'm using the same one to power my phone as satnav. Issue I had with mine was when I stopped for lunch the unit switched off but on starting the bike again it did not power on automatically. I had to disconnect and reconnect it then all was good again.
Have you tried plugging it in when engine is on?

Thats the reason I bought this one mate, no I havent tried that but it sounds a bit of a pain? Was hoping I could just connect it and it would power on and off with the ignition

That's what I was hoping for. I have the connection behind the seat infil panel, the USB unit sits in the gap at side of tank and cable routes up to bars under tank cover. It's easy enough to get at the connection if you need to but it's still a bloody pain when it happens, especially as I usually don't remember until I've sat on bike and notice phone isn't charging:mad:
Doesn't seem to happen everytime, stopping just for fuel it seems to keep working ok.

I've got one of these and had it turn itself at some point during a trip. It is supposed to turn off if the battery voltage gets below 12 point something, and I wonder if that is what is causing this - maybe a bit of voltage drop on switching the ignition on. I don't think mine did drop though, as it was a long journey with short stops and the battery was definitely fully charged, so maybe just a glitch. A disconnect/reconnect did sort it out and it didn't happen again.

Apart from that annoyance I do like the idea of not letting the battery get flattened.
