Today's news (funding for) BBC News - How could graphene transform the future? is about this! Graphene, basically thin as an atom stronger than anything ever made, conducts electric, heat, and so on... fold up phones that are impossible to brake unless my missis get one...lol and so on.. So guess this means some super stuff made of Grapene for my bike....lol They say you can stand an elephant on a pencil and it would support its weight when it's only as thick as cling film....really?
I read about this marvellous material a while back. Sounds incredible, applications numerous. Compared to Steel it's 6 x lighter, 2 x Harder, 10 x Stronger and Made in England!
Ive been reading up on it, it's truly stuff of science fiction, more conductive than silver, electrons travel faster than silicon, and many more interesting facts that I truly believe could change the face of electronics and devices as we know it. The list of applications are endless.... world-is-my-oyster: TEN FACTS ABOUT GRAPHENE: THE MATERIAL OF FUTURE Graphene: The 2D Material That Could Change Everything | Visual Capitalist loads of links on google well worth a read, the more you read the more fascinating it gets..
Shame about transistors, hope they suss out how to get them working, bit confused how they made a CPU with it if they can't switch a transistor on and off using it as a base material?
This stuff has been known about for a little while now. How long before it goes the same way as all our other assets.
Yeah agree, I see a number of other countries are developing it and the uk has offers of outside scientists getting involved in the project too.
Too right. It may take us a while longer to develop, but better that than some other country taking the credit for it. It's about time we kept hold of what we have and stuff the rest of them.
We'd have all the development funds needed if we weren't paying for every other nation on the planet.
It is I think, 3000 sheets and still only 1mm think? An elephant stood on cling films thickness worth, one micron thick and perfectly flat and clear... One of the developers said, we requested a sample and they sent us a sheet of aluminium foil, we looked at it under a microscope and could see nothing? No they said you will have to look again and study it hard to see particles of levitating dust, the dust is on the Grapene! So they had it but could not even see it....lol classic and they asked for it to study then had to ask where is it...lol
Whatever happens, I've got a fiver in my pocket says Nutty'll be the first one to have it on her Blade. It is carbon, after all. It does look as though a breakthrough has been made in forcing it to semi conduct though. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18868848
