I have a Taylor Made exhaust and a Bazzaz ZFi-QS Fitted, is the Pair Valve Mod Essential? Do i need to buy the blanking plates or can i just block off the hoses and unplug the sensor? I've looked on ebay and there are no Kits in the UK, where else can they be bought from if it is an essential mod?
If you run an auto tune or similar its better to remove and blocking plate the pair system. If you just have a map done on a dyno they can temporrarly block it off while they build the map. You can also block it off yourself by sticking a marble or similar in one of the tubes but I can't remember exactly this process. I looked into it when I was going to do mine but decided just to remove the whole thing and bought a block off kit on eBay, I think it came from Greece http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/261335112766?nav=SEARCH
Cheers, been reading up on it and this guy here- http://www.speedysgarage.net/hondacbr1000rrweb/1000RR_tech/1000RR_PAIR/pairsystem.htm Says that you can actually cap them off with 16mm silicone blanking plugs which are about £1 each and you only need 3 of them rather than buying a £25 kit (+postage) so i'm going to go to Halfords later and see if they sell them.
I did mine by buying 3 motor grade silicone boots (2 to block the inlets on the head and 1 to plug the oulet on the airbox)... cost a couple of quid
I've just ordered 3 Bungs off ebay so should get them next week now. How did you seal them to the Pipe? i was thinking a small ammount of Silicone Sealant on the inside of the bung so that when you push it over the pipe outlet it spreads and seals it.
Just so we're not talking cross purposes, these are the things I bought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item2c72149719 I bought them in the exact right sizes for the hoses they were replacing, and they were an excellent fit, nice and air tight all by themselves. I then simply reused the same spring clips that were holding the hoses on, to hold the silicone boots on.
I give the bike a bit of a thrashing last night and it was popping like a goodun. I love it!! Will I lose this with the pair valve mod?
Oh well, don't think i will be doing it then! What benefits other than making it easier for the Dyno Man to tune does removing it have? need to weigh up if the benefits outway the Popping an banging
My bike pops and crackles from the 'zorst really well, it even spits the occasional flame and I've done the pair valve mod, with blanking plates. Though it is de-catted and baffle plate removed from the silencer...
Cool, mine is de-catted as i have the TaylorMade exhaust i think i will do the Pair Valve mod as i have ordered the parts and if it doesn't pop and crackle and i don't feel any advantage of it i will put it back
Fitting the pair valve plates or blocking the system off makes no difference at all to performance, power or torque. It just makes it easier for the tuner when you want it mapped, as he would need to block off the system to map it correctly, otherwise he would get a false air to fuel ratio. With the system blocked, this will reduce the popping on the over-run, but not necessarily eliminate it totally, depending on the exhaust and if the cat has been removed, as Sam mentioned above.
