After several different ways of trying to fit in the best possible positions, but if you feel there are better then please do so. 1, Front strap. There are 2 bolts either side of the seat lock thread through the middle of these bolts 2, Rear strap, this was not an easy place to decide on, but for quickness just thread them through the rear seat lug hole 3, This is what they look like with rear fairing on 4, Rear view with seat fitted 5, Front view seat fitted, when your happy with position you could cut off the excess strap and leave on the straps permanently, they doo took in under seat so not in sight. 6, 20lt 7, 20lt 10lt
Part 2 Kriega 20lt 10 lt 7,cont. 8, Kriega Ducati straps 2 M6 bolts ? fitted a treat in the thread space on the subframe that are not used Ducati rear straps fitted in here but not 100% sure they are sarong enough position as it is all plastic with the rubber bungs With seat fitted Made these from spare straps just a bit longer than the ducati one which I felt were a bit short when fitted but never used them
Go with the first option round the sub frame, one thing I would say is I prefer to have the US20 and 2 x US10 mounted either side to give a lower profile as on a long journey and when you want to sit up for a bit take some weight of the wrists or rest the neck the double stacked option can hinder this, especially if you have a rucksack on. Plus it makes for a useful table and you can strap your waterproofs over for quick access.
Mr B that's what I have 1x20lt 2x10lt,I do agree it is better, but I only did this for mk3cabgolf has he was interested in purchasing a 20 and a 10 from the for sale section. How did you secure the rear straps was it through the seat slot or subframe?. Bearing in mind I've a SP2 which may differ slightly or not. I did ask before but I do see your from Cornwall same as myself, don't know whether you saw it or not !
Unless I did a more comprehensive strip down I couldn't go round the subframe dur the black placsic that pretty much covers the ? frame, did you cut slots or strip down more?
Thanks @Brom66 really appreciate you doing this post for me touring is off the cards for this year so I’m going to wait until next year before I bite the bullet
Been fine for 7 years and counting with 7 annual trips to the TT with the US20 and 2 x US10 fully loaded for 2 weeks.
Been touring a few years now Spain is a fantastic place to go cheap an cheerful as they say, Picos is great place to start so many good roads, Pyrenees another but sometime you have to go into France Serra da Estrela Park & Dora Valley Portugal also. Then the Alps the list goes on just not enough holidays in the year to tour
My dad has been touring for years, not going to lie, it’s not completely my bag BUT there is only ever a limited amount of time I can do it with him before he won’t be able to ride longer so I would rather do it even if i hate it to spend time with him rather than not do it and regret it forever. Out of 4 kids I’m the only one with the balls to have a bike it’s taken him 10 years but he’s finally admitted I’m faster than him now
I'm using the ducati straps at the front. With bolts to secure and the rear I'm going around the sub frame
Just to agree with the 1x20l and 2x10l on the sides. If you have short legs like me it is a bit of a challenge throwing your leg over the seat with high bags on it, especially when you have been on the road a while or it is a bit colder.
A technique I learned from having a fully loaded XT660Z is to approach from the right side of the bike and step 'through' the bike if that makes sense, with your leg in front of you.
