Firstly I hope everyone had a good Christmas & New Year. Just looking for people’s opinion on whether it’s worth me looking into getting a remap. Let me explain where I am at the moment: 2007 Fireblade with US decat headers, Arrow slip on, K&N air filter, O2 eliminator, Exhaust valve removed, PAIR removed, Airbox flapper removed, PCV with a custom map from HM Racing. I’m very happy with the setup except for the off/on snatchy throttle and sometimes there is a slight stutter around the 2500 rpm. I’ve read that a remap could solve this, but is it really worth the money as the bike is 90-95% setup with the PCV?
I have had only one experience with remapping (http://www.roadandraceperformance.co.uk/dyno.aspx) which was to resolve a surge problem. Bike was brilliant afterwards. In your situation, 90 -95% good would be fine for most people. It's going to cost you two to three hundred to get to 100%. Perhaps it's over to you - can you justify that expenditure for that improvement, OR, could you see that money spent/invested in other improvements. For me, I'd stick with the 90 - 95% until/unless there became a more noticeable problem.
Is your snatchy throttle only from when opened from completely closed? Could it be related to something other than the map? Throttle cable tightness etc? I've got an RR6 with similar mods (albeit PC3 rather than PCV and a custom dyno map) and it opens quite smoothly from closed.
Thanks Nigel, I think you are echoing what I’m already thinking myself, but it’s always good to here it from someone else.
It does seem to only be from fully closed. I’ve got to admit I’ve not touched the cables since getting the bike, but they don’t seem to have a lot of play in them. I am thinking of fitting the HRC quick action throttle though
It's not that difficult to adjust them - might be worth trying. After dismantling all of that assembly to get in to check valve clearances in the summer they'd slackened off when we put it back together. Felt horrid getting on the throttle from closed. As soon as they were tight it was problem sorted.
Interested to see what route you take with this as my RR7 is (or should i say soon will be) a very similar setup, except for the powercommander. Was your custom map generated after the mods - would have hoped that any fuelling issues would have been ironed out. So are you thinking of taking off the PCV and doing a remap with Woolich? Had a remap on my Street Triple RS with Hilltop - lots of people say they notice a difference but to be honest nothing really noticeable afterwards and to be fair there was very little difference on the before and after dyno run maps which was a surprise. Either my bike was already pretty well setup/fuelled with decat and open pipe or the remap on that bike does very little (just don't know until you've had it).
The custom map was setup after the modifications and as I said the bike is 90-95% perfect and I think it’s just me being overly sensitive. My thinking was to keep the PCV and try to iron out the issues with the remap, but I think the cost involved isn’t viable for what I would gain from it. I know that the snatchy off/on throttle can’t be fixed by a piggyback fuelling module, but that could be down to slack cables as dmc12 mentioned. I have read some unsavoury reports about Hilltop’s ‘remaps’ but as I’ve never had one I couldn’t comment personally.
