I have about a Gallon of unleaded I have sat in my old Fuel tank form my kit car. it has a little crap in it. 10 YO tank. but was hoping to put the fuiel into a plastic container and then use it to clean my chain. Heard many do this.

but will plastic be effected by the fuel?

or is it best to get a small gallon petrol container?

    cheers
    :)

Not an expert but I'm believe the answer is that it depends upon the type of plastic as petrol will disolve some plastics.

I have some in a plastic milk bottle as well ... no problems but I keep it outside just in case.

It will be fine mate b I wouldn't try to use it in an engine if it's been sat around that long, to be honest it's probably not best for using on a chain as it could damage the o/x rings.

I store petrol in these for the lawn mowers. The petrol in them is normally is good for a year if you don't open them too often.

Matt, don't use petrol for chain cleaning purposes! It will dry out the rubber seals, use paraffin, WD40, dedicated chain cleaners but NOT petrol!

you are probably thinking of diesel which is the one to use for cleaning chains. This is the one to use anyway. I personally wouldn't use petrol and I don't think it is recommended either as it is too solvent in addition to being a fire hazard!

Plastic container is only for temporary storage but since youdo not intend to put use the petrol in an engine, then however bad and off it has gone, it doesn't matter.

You could save it for your lawnmower, cleaning paint brushes, or as weedkiller though.
