So when I bought my RR-C I promised myself that I would bin the gold off the wheels as I'm not overly keen on the colour. I've now stripped the wheels which are now sat in the garage waiting on a decision before fitting my new M9RR's. I found a Hydrodipping company near to me who can coat the wheels in carbon fibre and then lacquer them for £300, but they've just informed me that there's a delay and I won't get them back until Aug. The other option is that I drop them off at my local powder coating specialist who did my CB500 wheels. I could go gloss white, or similar, the price is £100 and I'll get them back in around 1 week. I'm interested in thoughts or options to help influence my decision as the bike is laid up on the stand, so no riding until the wheels are done and then the new tyres can go on. Pics below to show the colours:-
I agree that the gold doesn't work right with the rest of the colour scheme. Have voted for white, blue might be another option but can't quite decide, white is a safe bet me thinks.
White is the obvious choice, but I'd go black. Black wheels go with everything and in my opinion look the best. Plus if you get bored of your Rothmans colour scheme, changing the fairings will be a lot easier to match black wheels this image might help you decide
Either black or white, I would probably go for white. Just don’t consult Michael Jackson, you won’t get a definitive answer.
Thanks guys, keep them coming. Also, they do lots of variations of black, such as with dark/graphite silver. Or with black there's the £300 carbon and wait option. For reference tis is what it would be like with white wheels.
Going to do my wheels soon, on HRC 2007. Thinking of keeping gold but have thought about white too. Going to paint as heard few negatives about powder coating - with paint don't need to change bearings, costs less, can do any colour/shade (limited colours with powder coat) and if I do decide to change colour will be less hassle. What's your experience with powder coat before, good I guess?
I'd keep the gold, I think they suit the bike. White looks best but would be a nightmare to keep clean so I'd definitely go for black if you hate the gold.
I've added a black option and another vote. Bearings out is a fairly easy job if you have the tools. This is the 3rd set in as many months that have had out, but if you're not confident then a garage could do that for you. Price wise I don't think there's much in it, but I think you'd be surprised how many colour options there are with powder coating. The big plus is that the finish is much stronger, like loads stronger. You'll see on Saturday. Plus you'll probably see the white ones on the CB. Cleaning wise, yes that could be a problem long term.
I voted carbon ...but changed to black when I saw Paulo’s picture. White is a no go for me. hurry up and do it so we can see the result
