Prior to setting off on my recent trip I purchased a renntec luggage rack, fitting it looked easy enough and indeed the four bolts only took ten minutes to do, but, the bloody pillion seat wouldn't go on once it was fitted, I spent a good 30 minutes scouring the internet for solutions as it was on the day of departure and I didn't have a lot of time, the most common advice seemed to be to just force the seat on and everything would be ok in the end. I did that, it's not. The seat stayed on ok for the trip, the luggage rack did its job ok, but I can't get the seat off now, when I turn the key in the lock it turns but obviously the latch isn't being released, I can't get any access to under the seat to see if I can pop it off some other way, I've tried wedging screwdrivers under both sides to lift it but no joy, so I need to know if I can get to the release mechanism some other way, ie from underneath. Or do I just force it and give up on having a pillion seat. It's an RR6. The front hooks for the seat to attach to aren't fitted as I thought that might be what was fouling the seat, obviously it wasn't. Any ideas gratefully received.
I've tried all kinds of pressure on it martin, there is absolutely zero flexibility in the locking mechanism.
I think someone else had the same problem some time back, have a search as I can't remember the outcome.
I had this problem Pete when i attached my grab rail. I was mightily peed off and it felt like the key was going to snap in the lock. I just kept the key over to the unlock position and wiggled, pushed and pulled the seat and eventually to my relief it released, i had a right sweat on. Don't think you can get into locking mech another way but not 100% sure.
I know it's not a lot of help to the OP but this shows it's imperative that the fitting of a Grab rail/rack is done so there is no interference on the seat tabs. i.e. carefully insert the seat without locking it so as to gauge any interference from the rail connections before engaging the locking mechanism
It's a little nightmare situation this and you will have to make up a wire tool to pull back the catch not easy and have had this problem with a number of bikes before, customers have jammed too much stuff etc under the seat and the catch is jammed up the cable moves enough to turn the key to the stop but not enough to pull back the catch! You may be able to grab the cable twist it to take up some slack and turn the key at the same time!
Cheers for the responses chaps , I am currently drowning my sorrows and reacquainting myself with the sun in Cyprus, a lovely 31 degrees today Will have a go at these suggestions when I get back.
