Just got my blade back on the road after having the winter off I need a new front tyre, rear tyre is fine. I'm on a Pilot Road 3 front and rear at the moment and have been happy with that set up I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to a PR4 front, but I'd have a mismatched front and rear (don't want to do the full set yet) Any thoughts on this? Also, thoughts on tyre pressures? I'm about 83kg or 13 stone. In the 7 months I haven't ridden it I've completely forgotten!
I have a 4 on the front and a 3 on the rear as they didn't have a 4 to match when in with a puncture, I haven't had any problems with it at the moment and I'm on standard pressures 36-42 and 82 kg, I think you will get a big difference in response to the pressure's as its a personal thing
Same brands are fine especially as essentially the same tyre, 36-42 is for rider and pillion better off with 36-36
I would never run miss matched tyres,,,,, always replace both.even if one just needs doing but I am sure there fine I just have ocd , S20 evo 34f. 39r.....soon to put S21 on...
Same brands and type are fine are fine I wouldn't mismatch brands though So pr3 and pr4 would be fine
Thanks folks, really helpful replies I'll get a PR4 for the front and i'll stick more air in the tyres
Thanks again, I've got about 1.2 mm on my front (checked last night) so definitely need to pick one up soon!
I would have no hesitation on mixing the two tyres you mentioned. In fact I would go further than that, I would also mix sport with sport touring and mixing different doesn't scare me either. But as always you need to re-discover the feel and handling of the bike after fitting any new tyre. You can also go to the extreme and change both depending how deep your pocket is although it is wasteful
