I know we have done this before, but these buggers just will not lay down and die, just shy of 10K miles and finally they have started to flat off and feel a little off on tip in, looks like a trip to FWR in the next few weeks. I cannot believe how good these tyres are, I normally see around 2K to 3K on a rear if I am easy on it, the last BT16Pro was 1600 miles, just feel embarrassed I have not trashed these faster. Has changed the economics of my commute though, would normally been through 2 maybe 3 fronts and 4 maybe 5 rears in the same time, probably saved me over a grand on this set and that equates to around 1.5k a year on my mileage
Unbelievable mileage for a Blade! Has the front worn at a similar rate to the back? Have you tried Pilot Power? Just wondered how they compare - currently got them on my bike but might try the Pilot Road 3 next. Cheers, Ian.
The front is worse than the rear, which for me in road use is probably a first. Used lots of different Pilots over the years and always rated them, but for daily use these really are rather good IMO
Generally on a blade the front wears a lot slower than the rear, mainly due to it never being on the floor..
Amazing ain't they! Mines shot to bits now, was all over the show yesterday. Although got me home from derby back in spring when we went to Scotland, had a summer of weekend rides out (usually 200 miles plus sometimes 350) a 9 day euro tour, few laps of the ring, and some weekend commutes (only about 5) and just given up. Reckon it's around just over 5k now (maybe more) totally awesome tyre. In all the riding I've done on them, never felt like I needed a more sporty tyre! Grip brilliant in dry and wet and amazing value for money. Considering the s20 lasted me four days in the wet lol
Never had a problem with Pilot Powers, and consider them a brilliant tyre, used then on 2 x R1's and embarrassed to say, got a shade under 7000 miles on the rear on my 08 R1 Had Pilot Powers fitted to Blade, when I bought it early August, I have done just over 3000 miles since getting the Blade (Includes 2000 mile Euro Trip) still look as good as new. (I must be riding too slow)
So Jimbo is this your all time favorite tyre and are you replacing with the same ! I have the BT o16 on my pea shooter and near done in at 1400 miles ( Rear) .
For us mere mortals, who ride bike on w.ends ( i find the 9 mile commute to work boring ) at a decent pace, wud u say the pilot road 3 r better suited n get more miles, rather than sticking on more sportier tyre say like pilot power 2ct / pures ???
Hands down mate. Does every thing brilliantly. Ill get both swapped together as at those miles still cheaper than anything I've had before. I'd run out of balls before they give up on grip mate on the road. And far superior in the wet than any roads tyres I've used. On my 3rd ever lap of the ring we were pushing the 9 min mark and never felt they weren't up to the job. For me, it'd take something special to use another tyre on the road.
Is for me mike. They are mint. Take a little longer to warm up which folk might mistake for lack of grip. But that's about the only negative I could think of. Oh and when you use them and like them as much as I do, you even start to think they look sexy. lol Ask Jamie - I recently brainwashed him into em ha ha
I wud if the place wasnt littered with speed cameras best bit is the tunnels under Birmingham, sounds lovely that racefit growler in the tunnels
I really rate them, managed to convince Jimbo they were the tyre to stand the miles on our euro trip. Have them on both the 929 and RRA, rears lasted around 5.5k on the RRA whilst the front looks like there's plenty left in it. Bloke in Watlins couldn't believe I was fitting them to the BST's, spose it's not cool!
Just had a peep on Google and Michelin discribed them as Sports touring tyres there is also a good artic all from a dude on visor down creaming over them on his Zx 10 .These are the very same tyres Andy was getting his knee down in the wet in Scotland .I bought the new Power3s for the blade but I don't think they are as good as the Pilot road 3s ( look trick as well) In articles in the bike mags it was always stated that the more thread and grooves means the tyre will move around more and as such will wear down faster than say a race tyre " What has changed then"?
This is them after a bit of 'touring' the lanes on a friday night mate Roughing up right near the edge, and no chicken strips front or back. Ill take that for some touring tyres lol
It seems Michelin have a great product and are marketing it all wrong .Got to say I will be having some around Xmas when I have done the crappy 016s in
