While i'm in the industry and this is brought up quite frequently with us as a reminder! THIS is VERY VERY sobering! BBC Two - Piper Alpha: Fire in the Night
still gets shown regularly on h&s vids - that and the bradford stadium fire... shows how quick a fire can spread rip to those who lost their lives.... is very sobering, especially when youve worked out there. makes you wonder if it could ever happen again though the way the permit & risk assessment system is now
Just watched it in horror, was it a new program? Had year of 2013 and folk holding ipads so must be quite recent Oil boys can earn good money but with it risks can lead to the ultimate price To be trapped in the accom unit till the end must have been terrifying knowing there was almost no hope of rescue or escape
I think some of the most effective changes are the DCR regs, (design & Construction) For example, they now think about where they run there firewater pipework ... rather than run the main pipe right next to the most hazardous areas they route them away and have multiple points of entry into smaller systems. Makes them harder to damage and even if one is damaged the other should still be effective!
Currently offshore at the moment and we all watched it last night too. We're a few lumps in the throat. Very powerful documentary. Was a new one released and its been made from the book that was written about it which is also called Fire in the night. My uncle worked on there but had been transferred over to the tartan for a trip at the time of the disaster. He lost a lot of work mates that night.
