IMG_0043.JPG IMG_0045.JPG Had new tyres fitted last week, been out this morning and noticed grease around where the bearing is. Not a huge amount but definitely shouldn't be like that. Is the bearing/seal goosed? Never done a bearing but I'm sure I can do it.

    Thanks

Never heard about that on bearings (but I'm not that experienced...). I have had fork seals go, that left oil down by the axle - is there any oil around the fork stachions?

No, the fork seal is intact. There seems to be some grease around the seal which isn't on the other side

It could be from when the tyre fitter re-fitted the axle, he may of greased it to get it in easier. Is it the nut side? If not I'd put my money on it being from pushing lubed axle back.

Thanks, just cleaned it up so I'll keep an eye on it see if it worsens or (hopefully!) not. It's got spindle protectors on so I don't know which side the nut is (left side as you sit on bike is where the grease is)

Check the wheel for play . . . if its the bearing that has gone then you'll feel excessive play in the front wheel, as mentioned above tho it does look like grease from the fitting of the axle

When you have front wheel bearing failure you will hear massively loud scrape sound and wheel dip/jump to whichever side the bearing collaspe on, its very distantive and you can feel it through handlebars.

long story short I had front wheel bearing failed and had to limp home for 5 miles holding less than 30mph and it wasn't fun.

from the picture they are probably excess grease when the guys lubed your spindle, wouldn't worry too much about it.

and if your wheel bearing is failing the tyre guys will definately know and tell you about it

Cheers guys, yeah it looks like excess grease. Did 100 miles at the weekend with no issues, so thanks for your help!
