Think of changing my gold wheels on my blade in the winter. Seen an hrc the same as mine with white wheels and think it looks good, does anyone have a rough idea how much this will cost? Obviously the tyres, discs and Cush drive will come off but is it ok to leave the bearings in or will they need to come out too

Should be about £150 as long as they are bare wheels ie no tyres bearings etc

We always take ours to a lamp post/ fence place I think they do council work mainly and just chuck your parts in with stuff they are doing already ( unofficially) and I presume they pocket a bit of cash. Mates R6 wheels were done this year in white for 50 quid

Budget all in £150 - £200 matey, forgot all the reasons now but you have to replace the bearings with new ones and you obviously have to add cost of tyre fit and balance after.

Also be very careful when you put the front discs back on you can easily strip the wheel thread !!! Tap them first !!

Was £100 for the powder coat and about £50 for OE bearings then 25 ish for fit tyres and balance by dealer :) add £25 for thread repair lol and your done ;) it does look much better IMO

When I had my swingarm powder coated on my CBR600RR, I removed all grease from the bearings and used a long threaded bolt, nut & washers to seal off the bearings.
The powder coaters stripped the swingarm, used silicone tape around the edges of the washers then powder coated without any issues whatsoever.

    If you do remove your bearings, get a new set from here;
    Motorcycle Bearings, Bikebearings.co.uk
The same as the ones you buy from a Honda dealer but cheaper ;)

Remember to get new dust seals as well.

I have just looked at having the wheels on my R6 race bikes done, but decided against it and am instead going to have them sprayed with 2 pack paint. It is more durable and you don't have to dick about with bearing removal.

Been quoted £43 per wheel from a local company which doesn't seem bad. Do the wheel bearings simply knock out and can anyone get me the part numbers for new bearings and seals as can get Honda parts from work a bit cheaper, also bit concerned about stripping the threads when re-fitting discs is this likely to happen if you're careful? Or best to tap it anyway? And if so anyone know what size tap is neede?

Tap It first ! I threaded one cost me £20 to get it helicoiled by the dealer and cost me my self esteem having to tell them I messed it up :(

I was super careful and I even used a tq wrench set at intervals and still managed it.

That price a wheel is spot on so that's good :)

My bearings were re-used and the seals are also intact - depends how good you / your mechanic is.

I keep thinking there is a market to offer a 'one stop shop' service for this but cost of posting wheels with tyres to a place and then courier back is a problem.

If you lived near a good powder coater, had a tyre change machine in your garage and were able to do the bearings I am sure there IS a business there to be made (if only for trackday funds etc.) - many people with bikes are 'cash rich / time poor' and will pay a bit extra to get everything done for them.

I'll judge the bearings on how they come out, need new tyres so old got to come off anyway and this is a winter project so got plenty of time to do it!

A good powder coater will use Silicone plugs in any treads, another way is to use correct size old bolts in all threads and just unscrew them when the wheels have been done :D

If your one's are looking a bit tarnished, use them as plugs whilst you get the wheels powder coated and get some new stainless one's from Pro bolt to put on your newly finished wheels.

Did think of that but there £60 a set for the front, £25 for Honda ones may be the way forward!

[IMG][/IMG] I think mine are about 5mm and i bought the Honda special parts ones. I think they where well over priced at about £32.00 And having had the normal ebay ones i would buy those as there is no differance plus some have better HRC logos than mine. I think the 10mm ones are a bit over the top .Dont forget to add a very small dab of nail varnish to the joint line and clean the rim with lighter fluid followed by a quick warm up with the hairdryer. Does that sound abit strange or is it me reading into things.?
